Are screen protectors required for S3? If so which are best?

Is the S3 screen known to scratch easily?
All mobile phone screens scratch really easy....:(

That only two of the mobile phones I been through, all the rest have been just as bad or even worst :(...:(...:(
And yes I also have scratches on my S3...

For any device with a screen, regardless of what they say about the glass: Get a protector.

If you have kids... maybe... just maybe lol :D
Don't have kids and I scratched my pioneer plasma screen only about two weeks after I payed £3500 for it..

I was in the loft above it and tipped and put my foot through the ceiling and some the plaster hit the screen...

Screen protectors look worse than a scratched screen and they damage really easily, even factory fitted ones like on Sony devices. It's like buying a brand new car then wrapping it in clingfilm.

Obviously there are extreme cases where they are useful, chaparral for instance, although I'd suggest maybe a second cheap handset for work would be a better option. Using the car analogy again I wouldn't use a brand new Ferrari if I had to commute 20 miles across a dirt track to get to work.

I'd never use a screen protector, they look terrible (you can say all you want that your one is invisible and you can't even tell it's there, but I'll never believe you :p).

I'd rather look at a scratched screen than a screen with a protector on (my 18month old S2 has no scratches, my month old Note 2 has no scratches).

If you don't have the patience and do a poor job of applying a decent screen protector (and not in the correct conditions) then it will be noticeable but if you take your time and apply it properly under the correct conditions then it really is impossible to tell if there is one on. Below is just a standard HTC screen protector on my S (not great photos but the best I could do with a HTC desire :p), which I got from amazon for like £3, apart from the air bubble on the top left (which went after a day or so) and the cut out for the proximity sensor, you honestly could not tell that a SP was on, the colour, sharpness etc. of the screen was not affected at all:

I took my screen protector of after a few months and haven't bothered with one again though due to the nasty feel (probably better ones out there for "feel"), attracting fingerprints and grease a lot easier.

The armoured shell and Crystalusion Liquid Glass Protection stuff looks like a much better alternative these days though.

I don't think any of the flagship phones are more prone to scratching over their peers, they all pretty much use the same glass. Same with dropping and the screen cracking, it's all situational.

As mentioned earlier if you're gonna be in dusty/gritty environments then get a protector, and if you're not then just use common sense.

I used to be in the "OMG must protect skreenz!" camp before I had an iPhone 4S that I knew was going to be replaced, so didn't bother wasting a screen protector on it. Aside from picture quality being slightly better (as you'd expect), there wasn't any more crap getting stuck between the bezel and the glass.

Since then, haven't bothered using them, had no problems. That said, if you are in environments full of dust that will scratch your screen, get a screen protector.
