Odd car buyer behavior - deposit taken but no further contact.

Is it possible to cancel / rescind / block or otherwise reclaim your money from a cleared postal order?

Could be that they've sent money for a deposit, concoct the story to get you to return it and then also forcefully reclaim the money via the PO and leave you out of pocket.

As above though, no idea if that's definitely possible with a cleared PO.

Don't return the deposit as that defeats the purpose of asking for one.

You've been messed around and ok it could well be the father is in hospital but equally it could be case of the buyer getting cold feet and preferring to loose £250 rather than finding £2250.

this tbh

unless the postal orders were fake, and in a few weeks after the bank has sent them off to PO they will reverse the payment, leaves you out of pocket as I bet this so called daughter comes back asking for deposit back as dad has died or similar story.

I'd maybe sit on the deposit for a month to see if you get any sense and then move on if not.

That said it's a deposit so if you are hard up and know you can sell quick then move on, you've not done anything wrong.

Also, who the hell pays anything by postal order?

Someones who is 65 and a bit behind the times? :P

Personally I'd be inclined to take the cost of readvertising and any reasononable costs from the deposit and return the rest, on obligation to but if taken on face value they aren't having the best of times at the moment and not intentionally messing you about tho the stuff with the text message is a bit odd.

If the OP can afford, then sit on the deposit for a bit and see if they want the money back.
If they were that bothered you would think they would pick the phone up, or return the call, it seems strange, even if it is some kind of family crisis.

Some people treat a deposit in its intended nature and don't expect it back if they pull out rather than the seller cancelling.
