never been happy with my setup sound wise, have a harmon cardon 7.1 ma amp setup as 7.1 but i never get much stereo left/right seperation.

my front stereo set are dali's ( all speakers mounted in ceiling due to being a bedroom )

would you disconnect the centre sides and get some good quality rear speakers and go back to 5.1 or replace the sides and rears with some bigger / better quality ones atm all the sattelites are tannoy efx ones.

heres a plan view, the damn shower rooms messing it all up but cannot change it

You have two major problems:
1) you are using ceiling speakers
2) your layout is completely wrong. The sides shouldn't be as far in front of you, and the rears should be behind you...

2) Is easily solved by moving back to 5.1. A lot of people would argue that your room isn't large enough to benefit from 7.1 anyway...

As above, I'd just move back to 5.1. What's with the two beds?

OP is 45 so either this is the kids room or him and the wife have reached the seperate beds phase of life, not that we should really be discussing his domestic arrangements!

The cieling speakers will always struggle to give you the directional sound you want due to their very nature personally I'd wall mount some decent bookshelves but I appreciate swmbo may not approve those plans. failing that revert to 5.1 and see how you get on.

thanks for replies , i removed the 2 middle speakers and set the amp to output 5.1 in the end, also i replaced the rears with 2 cambridge audio minx the front centre and the sub with same set, now i can actually hear things in the rears and the sound is much better defined with the newer speakers.

regards the beds it mine and my twin brothers bedroom pretty handy when you want some new gear as it cost 1/2 :) the joys of living at home
