*** 2013 Weight Loss Thread with Recipes ***

I'd emplore you guys to watch the big fat fiasco documentary on YouTube. I used to struggle losing weight even when I was on really low calories and exercising a lot. I now eat a lot more but only really take carbs ok before exercise if I really need the energy. I eat more fat and more protein and more in general but am able to keep my weight down.

This blog was extremely helpful as well.

Watching those videos I learned a lot. Really makes you think about what foods to eat.

Yeah exactly that, changed the way I think about food hugely. Also has helped me fuel my training so so much better. Don't get me wrong I still treat myself with sugary foods. But it's exactly that a treat, and eating well 90% of the time means I'm in much better shape.

Well, today marks the end of 4 weeks since i started a dieting(slight calorie deficit, low/medium GI, macro aware) + exercise crusade (mostly resistance, some cardio).

Beginning Week 0 - 211lb
End Week 4 - 201lb

Really happy with the result thus far. My target weight is 180lb which should be attainable in two to three months. I have been stuck in the high 20s body fat % for a long, long time, so that goal is based off an achieved bf% of 18%.

What i have found most surprising is switching to brown - rice pasta etc - tastes just as good if not better than white. Craziness I know :)

Don't get me wrong I still treat myself with sugary foods. But it's exactly that a treat

I have got to echo this sentiment. If familiarity brings contempt, it also bring a melancholic indifference. I have been so hooked on sugar for the longest time it didn't mean anything to me. A can of coke might as well have been a glass of water. Now, a can of coke is like the nectar of the gods, a real treat for special occasions.

I've done precisely nothing since the middle of January exercise wise through injury and now doing nothing whilst on holiday due to sheer laziness :(

Diet is alright but not tracked in anyway but still struggling with avoiding chocolate :(

usually hitting 2 - 4 litres a day :D

I blame lack of will power and working in a supermarket - a fatal combo! :(

Harsh, i worked in a supermarket for a while was such a temptation! I found if i constantly reminded myself most of the time i was not hungry just thirsty seemed to help control the urges!

Just hit my target today 11stone 7lbs.

A total of 56lb lost in just under a year.

Annoyingly I've still got a small amount of stubborn belly fat to get rid of so my new target is

11stone 0lbs - Dammit lol.

A few things recently have really really helped my diet.

1. Major cut down in carbs & sugar.
2. Big calorie differences per day.

2 days - 600
4 days - 1600
1 day - 3500

(averages out at 1,585 a day).

Low day = chicken breast & vegetables for lunch, Fillet steak & vegetables for dinner - loads of water & black coffee.

Up day = Usually going out with work, so beers & maybe a curry & a full English in the morning.

Normal days = Balanced diet.

3. 2 hours walking a day - nothing impressive, but enough to be classed a "basically active" - just enough to be moving a bit.

I will be doing weight training again soon, but want to finish off the diet (so I've actually got enough energy to do the weights - managed 8 months of reduced calories but got harder & harder).

Since doing the above (even with a few days of me going over) - I've been consistently losing weight at a pretty rapid pace.

Worth a try for those who like a day of freedom per week & love meat :).

Odd thing is I'm finally just starting to see abs poking through... fingers crossed will be fully visible in two months (visible abs is a good target as you know when to stop).

Note - also since stopping weight training a fair few months back - I've been taking BCAA every morning & night (except on high calorie days) to stave off muscle decay during the calorie deficit - so far it seems to have worked - as I seem to have lost not that much strength/size from the last time I tried doing some weights a couple of weeks back.

Thought I was probably due an update so here we go:

Start Week 0: 211lb
End Week 7: 194lb

The trajectory has been fairly smooth so roughly a 2.4lb a week loss, which I am very happy with. Final target weight is 175lb, based off a desired body fat of 18%, which should be attainable in 2 months.

I have made a couple of dietary tweaks as of late, including the introduction of creatine last week, and my breakfast is now quality whole rolled porridge oats made with raw milk and a table spoon of coconut oil, served with a teaspoon of manuka honey :) As soon as I am done with the manuka honey i will switch to a local honey to see if it helps the seasonal hayfever.

Because I looked at a chart of typical aesthetics for body fat percentages and determined an average which i preferred, no homo :p I have been stuck in the high twenties for some time, so getting under 20% is the target and 18% is the aesthetic ideal.

I do not like the overlean look because i find it bordering on ugly. Thats just my personal preference.

Currently making some home made ice cream...

Cottage cheese
Whey protein
Banana

That's it! Just letting it set whilst stirring it every hour or so.

Looks like it could be a bit of a winner.

Edit, works out at:

Makes 4 servings (not massive)

Calories - 177
Carbs - 14g
Fat - 8g
Protein - 24g

Good work everyone! Always nice to compare pics isn't it Muzza!?

Just an update from me, my weight loss is very slow now as I'm getting closer to goal weight - my weight today was 205.4lbs, 14st 9.4lbs, 93.2kg.

Starting weight was in excess of 330lbs back in 2011 so a total of 125lbs lost in a nice slow controlled manner - whilst not missing out on ANYTHING!

100kg jan 1st down to 86kg today. target is to break 80. Excercise 5 days a week, two in gym other 3 are 5-a-side footy.

Not fussed about diet or calories tbh, just quit the junk food and white bread, and only eat enough not to feel hungry or weak, very scientific. Another thing i did was to switch my main meal to lunchtime, and only have something light in the evening. I like to think i burn the weight in my sleep

Gym was mostly cardio for the first two months, bike/treadmill/rowing. Recently i've switched to weights almost exclusively as i think i get enough cardio with the footy, and was bit concerned i might be loosing strength. I just want to maintain what i have muscle wise, i've one of thost body types with lots of muscle hidden by multiple layers of fat!

Don't have any before pics unfortunately but may post after pic once target is hit
