Playing Tomb Raider, game crashes & sounds loops...?

So, with the tessellation issue finally fixed I decide to have a lengthy session of staring at Lara's fairly decent pixelated arse, only to have a complete system crash where by my screen goes black and the sound loops, forcing me to restart...

Anyone know what's causing this?

670 SLI
650watt PSU (possibly too small?)
i5 3570k @ 4.0 GHz
Z77 Extreme 4 mobo
8GB Ram running at 2400 MHz

650 watt PSU _should_ be ok for an i5 + 670 SLI - it does push the GPUs pretty hard tho so probably looking at about 475 peak wattage for the whole system which may be enough to push it over the edge if its not a decent brand PSU.

I had exact same issue which was on the wolf bit near the start where you are lying down shooting them.I turned off TressFX then the game worked and now i've re-enabled it which seems fine so far.

Hmmm... thanks for the replies guys. I'm not currently overclocking my cards and the temps are pretty stable in game...
I tried disabling SLI and that seemed to fix the problem for about an hour. Now it just crashes the drivers instead of my whole PC... TresFX has always been turned off as I can't stand the way the hair looks with them on.

Very odd indeed

Could be an Unstable overclock

I've been wondering this for a while now as I recently oc'd my CPU. Temps seem fairly stable under stress tests though, never stray about 70c. Besides, Tomb Raider can't be as CPU heavy as Crysis 3 which I've never had any crashing issues with.

My i7 & SLI 580's are peaking at over 625+ watts in this game..

I don't know what the power draw difference is between SLI 580 & SLI 670

Edit:
670 Maximum Graphics Card Power (W) = 170watts
580 Maximum Graphics Card Power (W) = 244watts

That be max wattage at stock clocks per card..;)

Ahhh right ok then, thanks for the info :)

Reckon i'll just hold off on it until the next patch is released or Nvidia release a driver to stabilize the SLI optimisation. Hate having 2 cards in my rig and having one of them stay cold xD

I get the same problem with non SLI

played for about 2 hours last night and only managed to play 4% of the game.. it crashed maybe 10 times...

Tried all kinds of fixes, different drivers, turned options on and off tried running card in stock and all it seems to do is allow me to play while it takes longer to crash..

gonna try the latest beta drivers tonight to see if that helps.

I had this a couple of times when I had my CPU overclocked, obviously too close to the limit of stability - knocked it back 200MHz and it's been fine since.
