'Affordable' is still like $5k for the 55" and $7k for the 65"... so not quite 1080p levels of cheapness!

When the PS4 comes out, then maybe look at selling, the TV's will likely be cheaer by then anyway.

Also, launch movies will be few and far between.

you do know the ps4 release is months away now?

4K is very very far away from becoming mainstream. i bought a tv less than a month ago, and i will be keeping it for 5-10 years.

forget about 4K, it will become affordable in 5-10 years time, no way will it be affordable within the next year or two.

by affordable i mean a brand name manufacturer like panasonic, samsung or sony releasing a 50+" 4K screen for <£1K.

when you see a 4K SKY or Freeview Channel being introduced then it will start to take off, but not before then, no matter if the PS4 has 4K or not.

im sorry didnt mean to...... but i get what your saying :)

Dont be too upset just yet.

Wait until the PS4 is actually released, and Im sure in a few Sony showrooms (and hopefully general electronics /AV stores) there will be some 4k demos which can then be compared to "standard" 1080p and see for yourself.

Educated guess - but imo from how the market has worked in the past (and given how 4k panels have already started coming out at 50-60" sizes rather than staying in the ~80" range) I personally think it will be well before 2018 that prices will crack the £1k mark for a 50"~ 4k screen

(baring in mind new models will be released every year, and at some point "value" models will be added)

what do you guys think i sould
Learn to punctuate for a start :D

Seriously though, if you sold all you gear every time something new was announced you would end up broke. Calm down.

If history teaches us anything about the electronics industry it's that the first generation of equipment is usually riddled with bugs and problems that no one thought of. Look at 1st gen LED screens. People bought the hype and paid through the nose for these ultra-thin TVs and were massively disappointed with the patchy backgrounds. Things improved in subsequent generations. They still aren't perfect. But they're a damned sight cheaper now. Look at 1st gen PS3. The horror stories with noisy fans and consoles over-heating. Things have improved and the consoles have become cheaper.

History will repeat itself with these 4K TVs. Early adopters will be stuck with TVs they can't sell on without taking a massive hit financially. 2nd and 3rd gen sets will be better and considerably cheaper.

are sony better then lg
In general, yes. Sony design and built quality is, on average, more thoroughly executed than LG and Samsung. Sony is aiming for a slightly more upmarket customer. LG is looking to wow consumers with lower price and more gadgets. So there isn't as much money for processing power and quality electronics.

But it does also depend exactly which models you are comparing and on the features are being assessed. A bottom-of-the-range Sony vs a top-of-the-range LG might come out as a different result. Two LGs from different parts of the ranges (and at different prices) will probably show a performance gap too. It's all relative.

i really wished i had waited and got a sony insted. o well i may sell this one and get a sony 4k tv. when there out we live and learn by are mistakes :) how much is $5k in uk pounds ? i didnt see your first post i will calm down :)

For the love of God, man. Haven't you read a damned word we have all written.... Oh, do you know what, forget it. You're so desperate to own one of these that you are blind to any advice... so fleck it. Sure I think it's a brilliant idea. Sell your existing telly right now and then wait, and wait, and wait. Then when you come back here in 3~6 months whining like a bitch about all the problems with the new TV and how it looks no different because you didn't spring for the Sony 4K player and streaming service and how blooming awful freeview looks then we can all laugh at you for being so dumb with your cash.

There you go. That's the answer you wanted. Happy now?

Forgive me for being blunt... but grow up. You're acting like a spoiled child.

You haven't got a **** (whatever that was) TV atm at all. According to some reviews there are aspects of your TV that are considered reference level. In other words it doesn't get any better than that. It's the best.

It amazes me how someone who appears unable to string together a sentence and hasn't a clue about spelling can earn enough to afford to chuck the thick end of £4K at a 1st generation TV on a whim. In fact, I am amazed and quite annoyed because you're blind to the potential of the gear you actually own.

If you were really concerned about quality then you'd spend £250 having your TV professionally calibrated and get the best out of your current £1500+ investment. That will make a massive difference to the performance. But my guess is that these words will fall on deaf ears because, on present evidence, you're too interested in just having the latest gadget to indulge in some sort of willy-waving contest.

lmao, it looks like you just see something you like the look of, do no research what so ever and then buy it, then when you get home you do some research, learn how crap it is and want something better.

it would be better if you did research first then purchased, would save you a lot of hassle and money.

therefore please go and research tv's on a tv forum, not on here

Op is angry due to BrightHouse now claiming dibs on his soul, firstborn and 90% of his weekly benefits for the next 73 years...
and didn't even get the best TV in exchange...

I know PURPLESHIRTSHOP have a £20k TV. It's UltraHD. SO far 84" and my grandad said "its a good picture that"

....... you know it's good definition when Tonys Gdad says "its a good picture that" or "its a niceyan"

At the absolute very least if you're adamant on buying early. At least give it 12 months. Let the PS4 release. Let it get some actual content with both games and 4K movies. And let them iron the bugs out.
