ISPs to include porn filters as default in the UK by 2014

At what age do you educate a child about gimp masks, ball gags and other S&M antics?

10 years or so ago, a friend of the time said that when she was younger, all sexual talk from parents started with the phrase, "When two people love eachother.."

It still makes me laugh today. e.g When two or three or four people love eachother, they put a plastic sheet down and empty 10 bottles of baby lotion onto it etc etc.

Well that's the thing - as you've said porn isn't just on porn sites... this filter in itself could well ban those 'other sites'... the likes of reddit etc.. could be filtered

If they take away my precious Reddit I will happily picket on the streets :p

So educate. Don't restrict access to content because some people don't understand it. Porn is not a documentary, it's a movie, like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.
But that would mean actually talking about it!!! We can't do that in Victorian England! What will the Queen think? Oh wait, it's not Victorian times.

People have sex. Porn filters should be opt-in for parents who don't want kids looking at inappropriate things for their age. How about setting up ISPs which have this type of filtering available? If there's demand in the market for it, people will choose those packages. Much like smoking in pubs, people could always choose to go to pubs which didn't allow smoking...

Even then I still don't like the idea. Someone else will go "We should block images of cigarettes" then we're on the swift march to a horrible state of affairs. It's how these things always happen. "Think of the children!" they cry. I'd rather not, I'm not into that sort of thing.

I can't wait, it's going to make ISP call centre staff so uncomfortable and easy to troll :D

ISP - "Hi afternoon, how can i help you?"
Me - "Hi there! I need access to [seriously explicit porn site URL] but it's blocked for some reason."
ISP - "Ok...um... hold on a second whilst i remove the Explicit Website flag from your account"
Me - "Quick-smart please darling, i'm lad in hand right now"

On a more serious note. I don't really care.

I dont give a damn about porn really, if they can filter it and only it, then im not bothered.
But we both know what will happen, they will use rubbish filter techniques using keywords and such and suddenly a billion legit sites are blocked away because someone on a forum posted a dodgy picture or said something the filter doesnt like.

I had to get the filter removed from my phone when I was on Orange as it was a little overzealous. Wasn't a problem - in fact I think I did it without even talking to anyone (telephone menu system).

Unfortunately it's not just the topic of restricting porn, the the restriction of information added to this list will be the more worrying.

Good job we have intelligent and trusted people in charge of these decisions...

well whoop de doo me and my wife will be disabling that filter pronto. cant have evenings without watching porno movies in bed together lol it's the best! Our kids can have some movies too and they'll end up more educated than all the sheltered people.

Restriction of information? You can opt out.

It's a starting point for other people to start restricting other sites deemed unacceptable. Forcing peoples personal beliefs on others. I find religion offensive can we have a ban on that please?

If it were possible to police the internet then it would have been done with the evil things on the internet to do with children and snuff movies etc. But its not, its one parent who has decided its too much hard work to individually block all these herself. If she can't trust her children then she shouldnt be providing them with a dozen ways to access it.

They mentioned a child as young as six going onto these sites (Probably their Dads favourites page ;)). Who lets their six year old on the computer without supervision? And if they do I bet they are the type that either would restrict the access or just doesnt care what they do. Either way it should be the parents responsibility.

I would be highly surprised if they get anywhere with this. Blocking pron would mean blocking 75% of the traffic lol

So more against the future implimentations it will have than just the blocking of pron.
