Hi

I'm getting a new system built next week and can't make my mind up in the graphics card .

I can either get the gtx 770 4gb with a i7 4770k which will be around £1510 for the full system, or I can get a gtx 780 with an i5 4670k which is around £1570

I will be using one monitor gaming at 1920 x 1080 120 hz .

Is there much difference between the i7 and i5 for gaming

Cheers

I would go for the i7 and gtx770. I think more games will start using more cpu threads. The i7 4770 will most likely see you through more graphics cards without having to upgrade it. My i7 920 is still going strong compared to i5's in the games that use the hyper-threading and its pretty ancient now. In the short term the i5 and 780 will give you more performance but in the long term i would go for the i7.

Frankly an i5 and a 770 would run evey game out or due out in the near future at an acceptable level.

Planetside 2 is a CPU killer and even on that i dont get under 40 fps.

Maybe with the new consoles i7s might be worth the extra for gaming but right now they arent and who knows if they will be on PC ports in the future.

Keeping to your budget, I would suggest getting an i7 4770k and 2gb 770. I would only consider the 4gb version if you are going to use them in 3 way sli at resolutions higher than 2560 x 1600.

A 2gb per GPU GTX 690 will totally thrash a 6gb Titan at 2560 x 1600.:D

I would wait untill prices drop, they are still at the inflated stage. They will drop before a lot of the interesting games from ps4 and xbox one come out on the pc.

Depending on what you are doing. I personally have a i7-3770K and it was a great improvement over my Phenom II 965BE. Gaming wise however at the moment not many games take advantage of the Hyper-threading but at the same time more games appear to be and the Hyper-threads do help in day to day activities specially if you render/record your video games playthoughs and so on.

But because you are just gaming id grab a i5 and a 780 for the extra frames though i think the extra price for a 780 is hard to justify when the 770 is not always that far behind it. You'd be great to just get an i5, 770 and put the money into another area of your computer in my opinion as well.
