Hello people

I am currently 20, and passed my driving test about 4-5 months ago. i am now looking for a cheap car, that will be cheap on insurance.

does anyone have any suggestion as to what cars i should be looking at for my 1st car

Thanks
Dan

Mondeo of the same engine size is usually cheaper to insure than both Focus or Fiesta. You have to get away from the idea that it needs to be some small low engine power model.
I went down the classic car route and my first car was a 1.6 Fiesta XR2 cost only £250 ish to insure. Depends what sort of car you want. Some Volvos are cheap to insure.

The mondeo is a great car, I literally treat mine like a piece of crap and it just merrily keeps chugging away.
I'd have one over a focus any day of the week.

I looked into the BMW and im surprised the insurance was as low as it was, still £1600, but ive been quoted worse on a 1 litre engine.

i have been looking into a 1.6 engine, as i have only been driving a few months, does anyone know if there will be any restrictions for me getting a 1.6.

i have been told that I cant get a 1.6 until i have been driving for 2 years. but cant find anything to back up this statement, so im not sure if its true.

Completely false, slap whoever told you that.

Things to consider are the costs associated with maintaining it as well as keeping it on the road (tax, MOT etc...)

Just something to bear in mind other than searching for pure cheapness.

The 1.6 thing is rubbish. Only thing I'd say about 4 cylinder BMWs is....well they're crap ( 318is possibly excepted)

Just fire every car you can think of into insurance quotes and draw up a list of what's affordable/ cheapest then go look at and drive them

My first car was a 1.8 Ford Sierra. It was considerably cheaper to insure than the fleet of 1L Novas, Corsas, Fiestas, etc that my friends were driving. Something a bit obscure, or not usually associated with new drivers will come out with lower insurance premiums. Think outside the box a bit.

Quoting Sierras and Nova's is showing your age there :p
