Virgin Media Discussion Thread

After me saying how happy I am with VM, I've had two outages this month. Today they were 'improving' the service. Funny, I don't consider leaving me without an internet connection all morning an improvement, especially when the message on 150 originally said it'd all be working by ~10am, then when I checked again it was 'as soon as possible'.

Of course they had to choose a day when I was off work and planning on doing some gaming to do this! Grumble rant moan

:p

Call sales (0800 1830123) as if you are a new customer and check to see if 120Mb is available at your post code and house number. If it is then you can get 120Mb today. I know Retentions have the ability to change it there and then, so you can request they do it if that is the case.

well I hope they don't get rid of the traffic management in my area yet, because if they do it'll be impossible to use it. i'm only getting between 5-25Mb on a 120Mb connection and if they remove the traffic management it'll most likely drop to 1-3Mb
seems am right.. they removed the traffic management. so stupid.

Only issue I've had with Virgin Media 60mb line in the last few weeks is that it will struggle to load a 360p video, 720p is even worse but everything else works a treat.

At least most of you have 10mbit upload, im still stuck at 5 :(

September suppose to be my 120mbit/12mbit upgrade but I guess it will be end of month not beginning.

I hope you're calling them up and getting £20 off your bill every month while you're having this problem. I had very poor uploads for 6 months probably due to congestion but every month I called up to get my £20 reduction. At the time I was normally paying £30 a month (then 100Mb broadband)

yeah we get £25.38 credit each month so basically it's free internet because I pay £25 for the internet, but each time we have to call VM to get the credit and 99% of the time they be difficult saying no you can't have £25.38 credit so we have to explain over and over again. so we called the retentions , we explained everything to the woman and she said she can only give us £25.38 and make it an automatic credit each month, will see on september 11th.

VM always make it difficult to get any money off them. If you lose service, they make out they are doing you a favour giving you back some money, and you have to explain it's not a good-will gesture, it's a refund of the money they've taken for the service they haven't supplied. It doesn't even count as compensation for the inconvenience of loss of service.

If your superhub had 8 downstreams and 2 upstreams mean your 120/12 is now ready. U need to call up virgin media to get 120/12 config files sent to your superhub. As it will take a long time to catch up itself once the upgrade of network in your area is done.

depends on the area. you don't really need 8 downstreams / 2 upstreams for 120/12..

i'm on 120/12 and my area is done but i've only got 6 downstreams / 1 upstream.

Same here. Downloading 112GB so far on 120/12 and still no STM reduced in speed. I do believed that virgin media had pulled out of STM in secret but they still admit that STM still in force (I think they try to fool us)

They are trialling no-STM in low volume areas, as it really isn't needed (read: non-student areas) - however, they vehemently deny this is the case as formally acknowledging it will just cause a massive argument with customers that still have to put up with it.

Enjoy it while it lasts!

seems like theres a STM bug. yesterday i downloaded over 50GB and i still had spikes of 120Mb so there was no STM

but today i've just downloaded over 20GB and it seems STM has kicked in because im not getting any spikes over 72Mb.
