On the road....
Not sure if this should be in the Windows, General Hardware or Sound forums tbh but thought as its motherboard specific (perhaps) I'd post here! :o

Just building up an old PC out of junk I have lying around, I've got my machine more or less up & running but am having a bit of faff getting the on board sound to work.

I no longer have the Abit driver CD and the website seems to not have working links to the drivers I require - on board sound, AC'97 I believe - looking online there seems to be numerous variants and I'm wondering if anybody could point me toward the correct drivers for this board.

Its an AMD 4600+ running nForce 4....

Thanks. :)

Ok,

The sound chip is a Realtek ALC850.

This should be it - http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=31&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=59

I think you need to click on the download tab along the top and select the AC97 option.

Thanks for the help stulid, I'd looked at that site earlier and assumed I'd need a more specific driver, but, I'll give it a go....

However, the damn thing has just powered off for no reason and is now not POSTing - I think I may have discovered why it was in my box of computer junk after all! :o:D

If I resurrect it, I'll give those a whirl.

Got the machine up & running - loose connector on graphics card - but unfortunately still no output from the on-board sound, I have tried an old Creative soundcard in it which works fine....

The on-board sound is defiantly enabled (set to auto) in the BIOS, the AC'97 drivers install fine, taskbar icon appears but no output whatsoever....
