Any other single people live off microwave meals?

This isn't the sports sub forum why are people arguing about diet and the complexities of nutrition.

Also has DM ever posted anything other than a wall of text?

I'm never wanting to cook, the most I'll do is either jacket potatoes or beans and sausage on toast.

Other than that its mainly cereal and microwave meals, weight watchers usually to make it a little more healthier.

Anyone else not bothered to cook?

Me. I don't cook and I don't wash up except at work when I'm working in the kitchen. Microwave meals eaten out the container with plastic cutlery. Modern microwave meals can be quite decent, e.g. Tesco do a quite nice beef bourguignon with gratin potatoes in their own brand frozen meals range.

Really cheap microwave meals are rank, but even in the ~£2 price range there are reasonable meals.

I can cook adequately, but I don't want to. Microwave meals mean more time to entertain myself.

Microwave meals are high in fat, taste like cardboard and will put you in an early grave if eaten on a regular basis.

Not any more. Besides, most fat isn't as bad as it's made out to be. But it's a moot point because if you check the nutritional information you'll be surprised. If you're looking at £1 microwave donner kebab and chips then yes, it'll be nasty-tasting fatty ickiness, but if you look at a range of microwave meals you'll find decent options.

Again, I find it funny how some of you focus so much on the term 'low fat' and ignore everything else. I started off talking specifically about microwave meals and its nutritional values in GENERAL.

Microwave meals... No thanks, unless they're healthier ones with low calories, low fat, low salt and low sugar content etc.
Just because something is low fat doesn't make it high in sugar either. I don't just buy foods that say 'low fat' on the label.

Jeez... Imagine if I said fat-free or 0% fat... How would you guys react :D

you said before that low fat is worse because of what they replace it with, please tell.me what you think they replace it with and how it is worse.

From my readings of nutrition labels, I'd say that they usually replace it with sugar and salt. Generally in significant quantities. It's unbalanced.

Showing due consideration for fat content is fine, but there's something of an obsession with it and an unrealistic portrayal of low fat content automatically meaning healthy. Snacks are the worst, I think. Something that's 50+% sugar is not a healthy snack. It may well be less than 1% fat and it may well have fruit in it, but that doesn't mean that it's healthy.

Gimme Gimme Gimme .....that ding:D:):p

They do by volume, low calorie will be low in fat and sugar for the same volume as fat and sugar are incredibly calorie dense.

Absolute rubbish. You're just making this stuff up. A lot of low calorie and low fat foods have high sugar content to make up for the fact that they'd taste like crap otherwise. Even so-called 'healthy, organic' low fat foods can be packed with sugar.

Of course, I avoid ready meals myself. I like to cook for myself using fresh ingredients.

I wasn't really talking about just the low fat aspects, I was pointing out that you typically don't really get many that are low in everything due to how they would be severely lacking in the taste department, and that they would have little nutritional content.

I didn't say low in fat has to be high in sugar, I was pointing out that when something is marketed as low fat, they typically are high in sugar because the manufacturers play on the general public's ignorance.

I know people that no matter how many times they are told, they believe that dietary fat leads straight to body fat and this is how the general public thinks.

Indeed. I didn't realise till I did some research that low fat food had tonnes of sugar in it.

I tend to avoid Microwave meals purely because the ones I've had in the past didn't taste very nice.

I just tend to make quick meals, usually frozen products that you chuck in the oven so I can't go on about the health side as I doubt what I eat is any better.

Can see where you are coming from though, last thing I want to do when I get home is to start cooking from scratch and making loads of mess to clear up.

I've noticed a few restaurants around here have started to offer delivered meals (not takeaway rubbish) but way too expensive for every night. What I need is a meals on wheels service for young professionals, they always focus on old people but they've got loads of time to cook. Lets get them cooking nice home made meals for us! :p

Wiltshire Farm Foods will deliver to anyone. Although I think their meals are just frozen ping meals.

I eat microwave meals but don't live off them. Ive start eating at pubs more often on the way home from work or at lunch. I found a pub near one site that sells good food for not too expensive, for london, but pints are expensive. End up spending about £12 for meal. But can be better than the choice of takeaway i end up getting from near my house, fish and chips or Chinese. I rarely buy pizza or indian takeaway during the week. Often ill have a big lunch at work and then just buy a pasta microwave meal from m&s for dinner as i won't be that hungry to have another large meal.

But microwave meals can be good, i bought a cottage pie (the lamb one) and some microwave veggies in a bag and it was not so bad. Cost about £6.

Why not make food in batches and then refrigerate or freeze? There are plenty of meals that take little time to make that can be done in big batches using fresh ingredients.

Like bolognese, other pasta sauce dishes. Loads of meat and rice dishes and so on. Then the meal just takes as long as it takes to boil some pasta or rice and leaves little mess.
