I actually bought a bar the other day to try something a bit different,as it was in the US section of the local Tesco. Low and behold it seems for the European market bars are made in China but still with the glorious markup for US made sweets. Fail.

I struggle to fathom why Hershey is even about considering its vile taste!

I assume its Americas equivalent of Cadbury and that both are available in the states? Where is the logic?!

The reason it tastes weird is due to the use of soured milk, which seems to be common in US chocolate. Historically dairies used to be enough distance from US chocolate factories for the fresh milk to start souring. By the time better milk transport had reached the US,most people had grown up with such chocolate and basically had gotten used to it.

However, its just plain funny, that to save a few pennies,Hersheys would rather make the chocolate in China and ship it to Europe, instead of directly from the US,then mark it up because it is "American" !!

BTW,I am not advocating that I find Hersheys the best chocolate in the world,it just makes me giggle that a real American icon is made in China and its food of all things, not your washing machine.

Cadbury is available in Canada and the US, but it's made differently I assume, because it's not good.

Its made for the US market.

I wonder if they make the bars in China too??

I was doing some research and it seems the bars we are getting are made for the Asian market!!

Looks, every little penny saved by Tesco helps!

It makes me think whether I need to check whether other branded things they are selling, are also cheapo versions too!!

Doesn't it have loads of sugar and not the same milk content, or have I made that up?

Americans seem to like their chocolate made entirely of sugar.
