Considering the Optimus G (Nexus 4's twin) is still on 4.1.2, I very much doubt it.

pretty much this..
not going to change to a new provider just so I can use cloud services.. and even then the reception is rubbish all over the london.. I need my music with me all the time not when ever the data decides to work the less dependencies the better.
yeah blazing performance, epic camera, stock android etc.. what else do you want?!

The bezel and dimensions should be very similar to the ZL:
why didn't sony do that with the Z1 is above me.. I mean they are more than capable of designing a good sized 5" phone and ZL is the perfect example of that.. my upgrade is in 10 days.. and I might pick z1 is not that much bigger than my current oppo find 5.. but I two of them sitting here.. need to start selling my phones
Personally I wouldn't want Sony to make a nexus device for a couple of reasons:
- screen quality is poor compared to other LCD panels i.e. viewing angles not as good & not as well calibrated as htc LCD panels and iphones displays etc.
- design might look nice but when using their devices they are uncomfortable, sharp rectangle slab just doesn't fit nicely in the hand (at least for devices that have a screen bigger than 4.3"...)
Would love them to go with htc again (nexus one is still probably my favourite android device ever) or even partner up with ASUS after the amazing job they did with the nexus 7 2013

Androidandme are reporting that the Nexus 5 doesn't share the same camera as the G2, the leaked log file is indicating a 8mp camera and not 13mp.
Now, I know resolution isn't the be all and end all of the performance of a camera, but I'm concerned we're heading for a let down again in terms of camera performance. At least we know the G2 sensor is capable.

This. Can only assume all these people who think sony make the best designed devices have never actually used one for any period of time. They are bloody horrible to use and the oh so pretty squared ness soon gets forgotton.
Keeping my eye on this one, I have a Lumia 800, lasted well but despite it being quick, fluid, easy to use, I'm missing out on some apps all my pals use for pic sharing etc and are all iphone or android users 
I assume this would be a worthy upgrade to my current phone? I tend to keep them 24 months.

It will be worthy. It's pretty much a given that the Nexus 5 will be the best bang for buck of any phone on the market. Bare in mind if you want one of the first batch you really will need to keep an eye on it. They will probably sell out in the first 10 mins once they go up on the Google Device store.

but then it won't be nexus 5.. so you're saying that releasing a newer yet less powerful phone is the right thing to do? not in my opinion.. 1080p displays are beautiful
I'm not against the 1080p display, also most nexus phones have been behind the curve, Nexus S came out a month before Dual core phones, the GN had a weak dual core CPU.
What I'm against is putting the S800 into a phone, its not even made for phones, its a tablet SoC, and you can clearly see it in benchmarks that it performance much faster on the reference snapdragon tablet. What I'm saying is the Moto X has a Dual core version of the S600, I would personally want a dualcore versions of the S800, the GPU is still more then enough for 1080p screen, battery life would be better, less heat, its wins all around. Nothing really uses all 4 cores right now so it just seems like a waste.

Take a look at those benchmarks and compare to the S4 (s600 versions) and the HTC One, it almost always equal and the Moto X even pulls ahead sometimes, most of these are pure CPU tests and just show how useless a quad core CPU is today.
Instead if we focus on 2 awesome cores and make the whole TDP lower I think its a much greater win. I know this won't happen thou but it is what I would personally like.
They will have to make saving somewhere inorder to keep the price down. I wouldn't be surprised if the camera isn't as good as the G2
