Hi guys,
I know there is a lot of threads the now about which GPU to get and what not but I'm just trying to make sure I am not wasting time and money with my current setup.
I have been watching and waiting to see what happens with the 290x and 780Ti releases and decided to go team green this time.
I am looking for a card to last me around 2 years at 1080p possibly 1600p gaming and cannot decide if getting the 780Ti might be wasting a bit too much money for what I am currently wanting. I play BF3 & 4 mainly but other games as well and want to be able to run on Ultra with no worries.

I will be selling off the 3 games from the holiday bundle pack and my old 6870s so about £150 being generous. That brings the Ghz 780 to about £280 and the 780Ti WF to £450.
Is the Ghz enough for me? or is the Ti's power worth that extra £170 in the long run?

Any help is appreciated, and nailing the coffin down on which card will finally help me sleep at nights :)

I run 2 XFX 1GB 6870 in CF OC @ 950/1150
2 monitors, 32" 1080p and a 22" 1050p.
i5 2500 @ 4.1-3.8 maxed
MSI Z68A-G43-G3
8GB corsair vengeance 1600
Corsair TX750M

There is no right answer to this

If long term you are going to be using 1600p, I would say get the 780ti as it will cope better.

If BF4 is your main game, I'd suggest you hold off for another couple of weeks to see how much performance increase does Mantle really bring to the AMD cards before deciding on the purchase. Also, custom cooler for the 290s should be out by then, thus would remove the (exaggerated) heat and noise issue as well.

For the money of a single 780Ti, you'd most likely better off spending little extra getting a pair of 290 Pro. 290Pro is just over £300, and now they come bundled with BF4 (and if you got the game already, you can sell off the game code).

+1.

Unless you are planning on upgrading your screen straight away i'd just buy 1 290 and not bother with a second until you upgrade the screen.

At 1080p your not really going to need 2.

I would wait before deciding your going nvidia, as above if your going to be mainly playing BF4 Mantle might be worth sticking with AMD for.

Got my Ghz edition this morning, mine might have a coil whine issue as it was awfully loud during a sleeping dogs benchmark... Fast card though!

Thanks guys for the responeses.
The monitor upgrade really is oiptional and i'll be looking to upgrade the 2500 to a 4930k next year for my college work.
I did consider staying with AMD for a custom cooled 290 and mantle but the issues I have had with my 6870's has kind of left a sour mark and in my personal opinion I don't think mantle will be the next big thing. But I am prepared to eat my shoes if I am wrong though. So I would rather stay with team green at this time

Would you not consider waiting 2 weeks before buying? Save you eating your shoes :D

However if you don't want to and insist on nvdia then i would grab a 780 over a 780ti and then if you upgrade your monitor in a year or two grab a second one for SLI as they will be cheaper by then.

Oh, Mantle is only 2 weeks away?
I didn't notice from the earlier post sorry until yours Joker. I just had to spend £110 of the money on a new motorbike tyre as I just went out this morning to find a screw in it...
So card buying will be delayed a week. So I guess I can afford to wait another week to make sure :D
