Powercolor / TUL warranty experiences

Hi,

I'm wondering if this is normal for them. The item wasn't bought from OcUK, and OcUK have been fantastic if anything has gone wrong in the past so please do not link this with OcUK, it was another seller who wouldn't take it back, I am sure OcUK would have handled this themselves if it was from them.

However, I bought a Powercolor 7950 which had a 2 year warranty. After some time (over a year), it started showing artifacts. I contacted PowerColor who said they do not deal with warranties (what kind of a response is that?). I then contacted the seller who also wouldn't deal with it.

So, I complained to Powercolor, stating that it is a manufacturers warranty and that it is up to them to honor it. A good few days later I finally get a response saying to contact one of their distributors in England. I decided i'm fed up of waiting for emails, so I called.. and they say they can't do anything about it, and guess what.. I need to speak to powercolor directly. At this point, you can imagine I am pretty hacked off.

So I email back Powercolor saying they need to sort it out, and they finally agree, and tell me I need to pay postage to the Netherlands. It's all packaged in the original box (Pictures coming soon), then with overclockers bubblewrap around it since I recently had a delivery, then another box around that with the address on. I take it to the post office... £43.50! I also paid for insurance on it, as I always do.

Over Christmas it takes some time to get there, and then finally they aknowledge they have it. They've signed for it and it is with them. About 5 days later, I get an email suggesting it wasn't packaged properly and it was damaged in transit, so they can only return the item to me. Absolute rubbish, I could have packed eggs in there and it wouldn't be damaged. Also, they actually signed for it, if it was damaged they should not have. They then sent some photo of the box after they had accepted it and signed for it. The photos were of the inside of the box, and they said that it must have rattled inside the box. Inside THEIR box I might add.

I'm certain that's a load of rubbish, but either way.. it was broken before I sent it else I wouldn't have posted it. They gave me the run around for about 2 weeks before hand and I had to pay for delivery to god only knows where in the end at my own cost. They then complain at their own packaging not being sufficient, and say that some part has fallen off it.

I'm so angry at them right now.. it's beyond a joke. Has anyone else tried sending something back to Powercolor? I was fairly impressed at myself even getting an address to send to!

This is how it was posted:

Notice the difference in the size of the box and the box it was posted, this was absolutely filled with OcUKs bubble wrap (That big stuff, like big air pockets).

Packaging looks fine to me, did you ask them for pictures of the packaging on arrival?

Sounds like they're trying to dodge replacing it to me.

PowerColor is actually an Asia brand, their European division is actually under brand name VTX-3D. If you bought PowerColor from any reseller other than OcUK (who seem to have a strong working partnership with them and would take care of the entire duration of the warranty), the manufacturer warranty would normally only apply for Asia region to begin with (unless I'm mistaken).

Anyway I'm sorry to hear what happened to you, but at least you'd know to avoid buying cards of Asia brands without proper UK/European support. If you MUST buy PowerColor, at least buy from OcUK as you'd only need to rma to them and they are in the UK...

If PowerColor claim it is already damage when they received it (regardles of them telling the truth or not), any chance you can gather enough evidence to claim from the insurance instead if this whole thing doesn't work out in the end?

I'm trying exactly this as I did pay for insurance. However, the claim needs to go in today since parcelforce allow claims for up to 15 days after it was sent. Of course with PowerColor/Tul/Vtx3d/WhoeverTheyActuallyAre who took their sweet old time about everything I need to hurry.

What makes me a little more mad is that I just bought 3 r9 290s last week... guess what... vtx3d.

What I know but they don't is that it was bought second hand which is why the seller wouldn't deal with it (first letter "S"), but then again neither would the person who sold it to me from (Initials MM :)). In fairness, that's up to them and I don't blame the person I bought it from or the company beginning with S (even though I have the receipt), but Powercolor should replace it.. it was a faulty part from them.

Powercolor, XFX and I believe HIS and Club3d are all the same as far as warranties go. Ie there isn't one worth even attempting to claim on. :(

This is why Overclockers stopped selling XFX cards, they (XFX) simply didn't honour warranties leaving OCUK out of pocket.

I'm afraid you have just found out why MSI, Gigabyte and Asus brands have a price premium for AMD products.

Hi there

Powercolor / HIS purchased via OcUK is a 48 hour turn-around roughly, we have special terms arranged with them and we deal with it in the 2yr period, making any issues easy to resolve. :)

Name and shame the seller, they have an obligation to act as a middle man (Customers are never expected to deal with a manufacturer directly)

This is why I said nothing to do with OcUK :).
For what it's worth, I sent back a superflower PSU and the same day it was received, it was marked as received by OcUK and was refunded... can't say fairer than that!

P.S, I hope the RMA team enjoyed the McCoy's, they were because I ate the Harribo :).

I'd have faith buying from HIS/Powecolor/VTX if its through OcuK tbh. I buy from other retailers from time to time cos they're cheaper. If i want complete peace of mind with an RMA id always go through OcuK, even if that means you pay extra.

Uh oh.. maybe I kicked up a fuss too early... they are "looking for a resolution for me" following my rather lengthy complaint..

Word probably got back to them. :D

VTX3d and Others of that brand are amazing imo.

I had a 7990 that was broken from ebay which i managed to get VIP_Computers to do a RMA with VTX3d and VTX3d got it and replaced it within 4 weeks from leaving me.

If you try your hardest things will be good ;)

To be fair I'd have no problem buying any brand ocuk stock, you know you're in safe hands and know they do their own testing prior to return to manufacturer. After dropping xfx we also know they like the hassle free life as we all do, which in turn means what's stocked is through their own experiences :)
