Quick question for people.

I have a very minor blog that I run. I blog under a pseudonym as I have a pretty public professional profile. I like to keep my professional and private lives separate :)

I have just registered a separate domain for the blog with a company called Arvixe in the US. I specified their "privacy" option for domain registration.

Upon running a whois search on the domain my full details show up. Although if you go to Nominet and run a whois search they don't. At nominet though my full name shows.

I have been on to Arvixe and they have assured me that they can get the whois info updated with nominet to show "Arvixe Customer" or similar as the registrant name. From reading online this doesn't seem to be the case.

Is there any way at all to have my name hidden from public whois records for a .co.uk domain?

I don't see .co.uk on that list.

You're right it doesn't, bad page design because it does right underneath the privacy slogan at the top.

Anyway, as mentioned above, whois cache already has the original details so to have no personal details in whois will probably involve registering a new domain.

123-reg do (or at least did) have .co.uk privacy - I registered mine with them many years ago and opted for that option and it only shows my name on all whois results (expected).

Only my name is showing at the moment. I want full privacy without my name or anything showing.

You can get full WHOIS protection on any .uk domain providing you register it as an "Individual" ... if you specify it as being for business use, you instantly lose your ability for WHOIS Opt-Out. All UK registar's will ask you this at the time of registering, some US based registrars dont ask and it doesnt get passed on

Spoke with nominet this morning. It isn't possible to have your name withheld - even as a private individual. They will only hide your address details. However there is the chance that if they decide at some point that you are running the domain for commercial reasons they will publish the info.

I have gone ahead and cancelled the .co.uk domain registration. I have been given a .org domain instead.

The registrar has told me that the .org registration takes about a day for the registration info to "go private". Does that sound about right?
