Hi,

So I've called Zen earlier to query the progress of my move from Pro to Active and they also tell me I'm still on ADSL so will move me to ADSL2+

Speed test before...

After about 10 mins downtime which I'm assuming was them moving me over to ADSL2+ I get the following speed test...

Now I used to average about 650kB/s on torrents. I do recall getting 1.1MB/s one time too though I could be wrong. Now since the upgrade I get 1.1MB/s downloading from Microsoft. I've factory reset my 7800N router but can't get more than 1.1MB/s. Theoretically I should be around the 2.5MB/s speed right?

Thanks :)

Looks about right to me depending on your line attenuation. What stats do you get from the 7800 for sync speed, attn. SNR etc..?

As for download speeds, real world is very different from theoretical.... I sync at 17400 on ADSL2+, but I just tried downloading an ISO from MS that topped out at around 600KB/s. You are constrained by a variety of factors...

Thanks I see. Well stats are above. Was just expecting at least a doubling in speed but wasn't like I was unhappy before the upgrade anyway. At least it is faster and holding up at 1.1MB/s now judging from the speeds I'm getting from fast servers and healthy torrents.

Don't seem to be getting the IP profile from that test and sometimes the upload comes back as 0 Mbps?
When I ask for further diagnostics, I get...

The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

Thanks for replies so far. :)

Are you going through a VPN or something like that? They're often limited to 10mbps
Nope.

The BT site above does have the following though...

8. Please note, it can take up to 10 days for your broadband line to train up to its full speed. So bear in mind that any speed test during this period may not reflect the true long-term speed of your broadband.

Should I allow 10 days in this scenario whereby they've moved me to ADSL2+?

Just rang Zen and they state the doubling in latency is probably due to the fact interleaving was off before I moved to ADSL2+ but now it's on.

Speed wise though they could only suggest I plug my router directly into the master socket downstairs rather than the extension upstairs. Will give this a try.

Should be seeing 1.7/1.8MB/S with that sync, not 1.1
Just plugged router directly to master socket and got these results for Microsoft download and Linux ISO download....

Close enough. :D I'll settle for that. Thanks again everyone. :)
