Any advice would be helpfull

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone that helped me making my choices..I ended up with the Intel I5,the Msi 2gb card and 8gb of ram..just a quick question concerning my Ram..it is the TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit ,do i set it up at the full 2400MHZ in my Bios? ( i have it at 1800 at the moment) also my I5 is 3.4GHZ turbo to 3.8GHZ,can i set it up to 4GHZ without having to much to worry about? I use a corsair H50 cooler..Thanks Guys

Nice :)

Yeah re the RAM you should find a setting called X.M.P or Extreme Memory Profile in the bios somewhere - try setting that to the right speed. Based on your ram it should read: '11-13-13-35 - 2400MHz' or smiliar.

As for the CPU, I imagine setting the turbo multiplier to 4GHz (40) should work fine on stock volts, although I am still on Sandybridge i5 so have not had personal experience overclocking Haswell.

In windows you can use CPU-Z to show both core speed and ram timings, to make sure your bios settings have saved properly.
Let us know how you get on :)

Cheers WalderX i think ive done it ok in Bios ..CPUZ is showing (RAM) type=Dual,NB FREQ=799.8 MHZ,Dram Freq=1199.8 MHZ,....(PROCESSOR) Core speed 799.81 MHZ, Multiplier x8,Bus speed 99.98 MHZ..I havent a clue what all this means though  ps in Bios my Mem is indeed on 11,13,13,35 Thanks Walder...PS scratch that Walder..i opened up prime 95 and core speed is 3999.07, and spd slot 2 and 4 (my mem is on those slots) last column shows XMP-2400 and under that Freq at 1200 MHZ,i hope thats right Cheers mate

Yeah it is right. It will show as half because it is Double Data, so 1200 x 2 = 2400MHz. My 1600MHz Ram shows as 800 in CPUZ.

Lee thanks mate for the heads up,going from my Phenom 2 955(which i loved) to my new system was a big step for me.But wow im so glad i did, the difference is staggering, i had a bit of trouble with the cooler and also my 2nd HD would,nt show in Windows but got them sorted..Thanks to everyone once again for your extremely friendly advice and understanding of me being a tech noob :D...cheers guys

Sounds like you got it all setup correct dude :) forgot to mention the cpuz thing, as correctly asvised by lee it shows the base clock rate of the ram rather than the ddr rate. To be honest they should probably update it to show the full ddr speed these days!

Your cpu was running at 1200mhz idle in gpuz then as you saw, when running prime95 the boost clock kicked in and pushed it up to the full 4000mhz. Use your pc normally for a few days and play some games - if all good then try push the boost clock to x42 (4200mhz).

The neverending road of overclocking begins!
