Microsoft: PC Gamers can expect “more focus” from us

They had the Xbox team to handle and look after (if we can even call it that) GFWL by treating it like a sidedish, that's why GFWL was such an epic failure.

Seriously, M$ really need to look after the xbox and PC gaming community equally and separately...hell, would be better if they just forget about the xfail and focus more on the gaming commuity as a whole. Leave the console to Sony.

I highly doubt they will and honestly, I hope they never return to PC gameing after the GFWL shambles.

The thought behind gfwl was good, it was just a neglected mess and they didn't listen to community feedback.

If they want to be more attentive to PC gamers they either need to get into bed with valve or at least take a long hard look at their business model when it comes to catering for PC gamers. When the steam community speak out about something valve usually take positive action.

I think they might be a bit worried if Valve can actually make SteamOS a reasonable gaming OS. If OpenGL can gain traction with Nvidia,AMD and Intel under Linux,it really is a threat too.

They really don't care much about pc gaming i don't think. Xbox one is their main thought, pc gaming is an afterthought. Mantle has certainly made them take notice though, which is a good thing.

I don't mind this as the closer those consoles are to basically being PC's, the better it is for us PC gamers.

C'mon now guys, they might well sort it out for DX12 and I am not one to hold a grudge...Optimism is the way forward.

DX 12 doesn't count, that's simply matching the competition for API's.
Them promising more support for pc gamers has always been hot air, the only real way they can support the pc is games ; fable 2, gears of war 2 etc.

Yep, especially with valve releasing a translation SDK to go from DX to ogl, on for source engine at the moment but surely only a matter of time until it becomes universal.

I actually like Microsoft as a company though much prefer day to day life on Linux.

Oh look, everyone has started bashing Microsoft in this thread again as it seems to be the hip thing to do these days...

Let's just remember which company makes the operating systems we all still use for gaming guys, Microsoft could've completely abandoned PC gaming by now - yet they haven't and they continue to develop this market, one can criticise the rate at which they have progressed PC gaming but that's another story.

I remain a fan of Microsoft, they have served me well over the years for basically every area of my life related to technology.

They would've lost a lot of money if they had, gamers aren't some tiny minority, they're a big part of the computing world and if MS had abandoned gaming, someone else would've stepped up and the gamers would buy their OS' instead.

Another company could've stepped up by now, there are plenty of extremely wealthy tech businesses out there - but nobody has stepped up, and Microsoft has continued the development of the PC gaming market; so kudos to them I say.

I bash them for their failures, their neglect of pc gaming is a failure, which they continue to blow hot air about with meaningless "We will focus on pc gamers", same story with EA and their "We will be better" speeches (Although EA do a few things right, and get praise when they do).

I like MS as a company, but some of the stuff they do rubs me up the wrong way (Their failure with the Surface RT and windows RT in general, something I use, but they're ruining it as a long term OS)

Hopefully this doesn't signal yet another ham fisted attempt to jump on the bandwagon. Gfwl and metro were two years behind the competition, and were second rate efforts that only succeeded in eroding their core windows market.

It's difficult to tell who you are focusing on when you are wall-eyed, colourblind and walk backwards, now you've gotten rid of Ballmer things might improve.

Actually MS has abandoned PC gaming.......they did about 10 years ago. They promised to make PC gaming a priority on XP; what did they do; they closed all their PC studios and turned them in the xbox studios.

They then promised to concentrate on PC gaming with Vista *we all know how that turned out*; then again on Win 7........and again with Win 8.

I'm calling BS until they actually reopen some of their PC studios. I'm tired of empty promises from MS about PC gaming......now either they put up; or shut up.....fool me once......shame on you......fool me twice; shame on me

It's Microsoft, any promises by them relating to PC gaming should be taken with a massive pinch of salt. I will believe it when I see the benefits running on my own PC.

I can't help but think that all this "more focus on PC games" talk and the arrival of DX 12 has more to do with the less than stellar launch of the Xbox one than it does with someone at MS waking up one morning and deciding that PC gamers deserve better.
