I need to buy a few 64 or maybe 128GB USB 3.o thumb drives but i have no idea what kind of read/write sppeds i should be look at, can anyone advice on what kind of benchmark speeds i should be looking at for middle of the road stuff?

what's your budget?

what is more important to you read or write speeds or both?

a decent USB 3 drive should do 70MB/s write and 100+MB/s reads. ~£75 128GB

Top end ones will do 150MB/s writes and 200+MB/s reads. ~ £120 128GB

I was hoping to keep below £100 for each 128GB

Write speed is going to be the most important to me.

Maybe i can find a decent one on special somewhere, so guess it's time to start hunting a bargain out, ok many thanks for your help kona786.

NP.

SanDisk 128 GB Extreme Pro USB3 is the fastest drive I've seen, with 200+MB/s Write and read.

I have a 128GB Integral Xcel 128GB USB 3.0 which does ~80W/130R

Why do you need 128GB?

Sandisk Extreme drives are fast, but the largest size is 64GB for about £50. Read speeds are ~190MB/sec, write speed specs I can't find.

Looking at Sandisk's site, they now do an Extreme PRO flash drive, the only capacity being 128GB. That's about £120. This buys you read speeds of ~260MB/sec and write speeds of ~240MB/sec.

I do not see need to know why he needs 128GB.

Sandisk Extreme 64GB : 268MB/s Read / 205MB/s Write on Intel Z87.

The newer Extreme PRO has been out a good while, I posted a thread on it.

I'm also after a new USB 3.0 pen drive, which would you guys recommend out of the following:

Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 128GB USB 3.0
(£91)
(EDIT - Found this for £80 delivered)

Corsair Flash Voyager GS USB 3.0 128GB
(£85)

128GB Corsair Flash Voyager LS USB 3.0 Flash Drive
(£63)

Lexar 128GB JumpDrive S73 USB 3.0 Flash Drive
(£52)

The prices I've listed are what I can pick them up for locally. I'm after one which performs well, is reliable and doesn't come in cheap plastic casing.

Edit - Or is there another you would go for over the above which doesn't cost much more?

Bit late to the party?

If he asked for that (128GB) he gets replies on that IMO. :)

That pen drive will blow away and Mech HDD for transfers anyhow.

Yeah, I should be doing other things right now! Didn't spot that the original replies were two days old either!

Cheers kona, I've been looking at some reviews online today and decided to go for the Kingston which seems to perform very well and is reasonably priced for a 'quick' 128GB drive.
