What car do you wish you could have owned?

I was talking to my old man last night and he was talking about cara he wish he had the chance to own when he was younger but didn't get chance due to finances or practicality.

I mentioned mine would probably be an old Downton tuned Mini Cooper S, I just love the history of the car and the Downtown company.

What would yours be?

Probably the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4. Would have loved to have owned one of them at some point, ever since seeing one of my mates uncles driving one around when I was a boy.

I suspect good examples are pretty decent money now. An RS500 would probably also be up there, but I fear that was always going to be out of reach.

My dad had lots of company cars, but as a boy it was the MK3 Granada Scorpio that was the amazing one back then. It wasn't his, but on occasions, he bought it home. Leather seats. Buttons. Yes, it's naff by today's standards, but those memories..

Or the Lotus Carlton.

Well, there's plenty of time yet. But before I'm 6ft under I would love the opportunity to own and daily run an Delorean and an FD3S RX7.

Skyline R33 GTST
Soarer VVTi
300ZX TT 2+2

Could have got those but chose different cars so always wondered what they would have been like, not going back now though, I couldn't live without automatic headlights/wipers :P

Datsun 240Z, saw a minter locally for an affordable sum many years ago. Couldn't afford a nice one now.

Porsche 944... As above!

E38 740i - I loved my 728i, but, the V8 is in a different league performance wise.

Practically, having two German Shepherds to cart around means it's doubtful I'll get one any time soon. :/

Also, an Escort RS1600i I passed on a few years back, it was mint and up for just under a grand, the seller didn't appreciate it's value - scene tax wise at least.

Ported RX7. Every year at JAE when I hear one I look into buying one. Then I talk to the owners and I get put off. Financially running one is no problem, but I don't think I could put up with an extremely temperamental car.

Lancia delta integrale evo
mk1 escort
ford capri laser
opel manta
mitsubishi starion
escort cossie

All cars I loved as a kid :)

Had a Manta Coupe, rear is snappy but good value. My Starion 2.0 wide body with low mass turbo....loved it and kept it for 18 yrs. The RX 7 was great fun.

They are not that temperamental (unless they are boosted to high heaven) , just sure it is serviced (oil changed) and make sure the rotor tips got changed when they should. Nothing much went wrong.

The pop crackles and pops :-)

Spent the last two weeks working on one of these round at a friends house because another friend broke down on his drive, got it running just as it was going dark last night, awesome machines when they work :)

I may look at getting one. Problem is I'd have to get rid of the S2000 but it's such a nice example and I love driving it I'd really struggle to let it go.

Always lusted after a Vauxhall Calibra. By the time I could easily afford one, they were just too long in the tooth :(
