Need some advice legally asap

So he should call the RSPCA then... chsnging the locks leaving 4 cats trapped ought to cause the RSPCA to at least have a word with the landlord. He is already aware there are animals there before he changed the locks.

As for the OP having legal right to be there in the first place - he's been given permission by the occupier who has asked him to feed her pets...

The Landlord has no legal right to change the locks.

*Sigh*...

The Landlord has changed the locks because he's seen strangers entering his property with a key who have no legal right to be there... He hasn't 'evicted' anyone - Yet! ;)

The Police won't help anyone break in who isn't legally entitled to access the property. The RSPCA may be able to gain access if they think there will be neglect or suffering, if there is neglect or suffering, the RSPCA will more than likely prosecute. That's what they do.

No, the OP does have a legal right to be there, they were given a legal right form the current tenants to enter the property. the has no legal right to deny such entry.

My suggestion of calling 101 wasn't implying that the police would help unicorn break in. I didn't read anyone else suggest that either but I have only skim read the thread.

But they can advise what legally can be done given the circumstances. They can either assist or will tell he where he stands.

Afterall unicorn has written that he wants legal advice in the thread title. I'd be asking someone who knows the law more than random people on an Internet forum

I haven't been on this forum long but there's one thing I've seen posted constantly and I'm surprised hasn't been posted yet?

Pooing through the letterbox. For some reason that seems to be the universal solution to anyone's problems on here :D

The landlord has no legal right to enter the property without 24 hours notice being given to the tenant. If OP has permission then he arguably has more right to be there than the LL does, its not his business who his tenants friends are.

Replace "pooing through" with "put cat food through" and you've got a semi-functional, if strictly temporary, workaround to the problem...

I still think OP needs to investigate if landlord has removed or released the cats, which is what I'd be immediately concerned about if I knew someone had accessed the property.

All sorted managed to get a hold of the landlord it was a major misunderstanding he's okay with us being here to sort cats out he's okay with pets here etc he thought we was squatting. So glad he was genuine about it all and help us out. Thankyou for all the advice and help but fortunately wasn't needed

He lives across the road in the end. He's changing the locks back tonight and we have sorted the cats out.

glad the cats are sorted.

tell him to leave the new lock in and give you the new keys.

that way he will have some serious explaining to do to the tennant.

otherwise he'll cover it up and deny it ever happened.

I reckon the storage of stuff probably confused matters... Glad he now understands 'these people here to feed the cats'

Yeah he was confused about the storage but said it's not an issue at all. Iv taken his number in case we need to get back in touch for any reasons.
