Distance Selling Regs

I thought* actually if you pay remotely (online, phone), then you are protected by CCR. If you pay in store, you aren't.

Am I wrong?

*ie. not backed by any reading of the actual regulations so don't kill me :p

Correct.

Worth noting that the CCR differs to DSR in that you get 14 calendar days within which to cancel a contract, not 7 working days as per the DSR.

Oh, so if I order and pay online and then pick up from store, I get 14 days to try it?

If so, excellent. I'm buying a 50" TV and I want the chance to change my mind.

They can charge you for a return if it's been opened, so it might not be your best idea.

That might be how many people use it but it's not what it's designed for, it's designed to allow you the same amount of chance to inspect the item as you'd get if you bought it in store.
Which is why companies are now allowed to charge a fee if they think the item has been subject to excessive use.

Shoes and clothes maybe, which you would normally try in a store.

You wouldn't whip out a 50 inch TV from the box in Argos and ask to try it.

It's designed to allow you to buy at a distance in the knowledge that you can get a refund of you are not satisfied with the quality.

That's what I want to do.

No, it's designed to give you the same opportunity to inspect goods as you would in a bricks and mortar store. Like has been said, whipping a TV out of the box usually isn't an option.

The exact model and make you are buying? Very often not.

I disagree. When I looked for a TV I hunted around online then went into Richer Sounds so see which set out of the narrowed down choices I preferred. This can be done in so many stores too as they tend to have most of the sets available on display and in the case of RS you can often ask to view the set if they don't have it on display.

I think most people take this approach. I'm of the opinion that if I view it in the shop then I want to buy it from that shop. I've seen me actually pay a little bit more, but the way I see it if we only use these shops as viewing galleries then sooner or later they won't exist. I paid £20 more for the last washing machine I bought. Just as an example.

When it comes to an expensive item that I'm going to spend a lot of time looking at, I want a bit more protection in terms of being saddled with something I hate.
