mDP to HDMI adapter Active or Passive?

Hi guys,

I have a question and was hoping someone could help. Basically I want to link a mini Displayport on my GPU (R9 295x2) to the HDMI input on my 4k TV. I know I will only get 30hz but that's OK, so my question is what adapter do I need, passive, active, either?

I thought that any old adapter that went from mDP 1.2 to HDMI 1.4 would do the job but not to sure?

Thanks! :)

I ordered the StarTech 4k active adapter, connected it up to the GPU and TV and Catalyst see's the screen supports up to 4096x2160. So I select 3840x2160 @30Hz and it does output at that res, but I am getting weird audio pops, and signal disconnects even just sat on the desktop with no load and no audio playing.

The TV and HDMI cable worked fine at the same resolution on my 290x's so I am really puzzled?

Does anyone have any idea or has run a similar setup?

Thanks guys. :)

@slick rick, I went a similar route and ordered a 295x-2, swapping out 1 290.

I have one of those Startech active adapaters, and I get 4k30 without any problem. I don't pass any audio though.

Sorry I can't really offer any help beyond that...

Thanks for the reply. That's interesting, I wonder if my adapter is faulty then?

Can I ask what driver version are you using for the GPU? And also if its not inconvenient, could you check and see what colour depth is set to at 4k in properties section of my digital flat panel in CCC please?

Thanks again. :)

Hey,

I'm not home at the moment and I'll probably forget to check by the time I am :)

But the driver version is the latest beta (prior to this Omega stuff), the one that includes the Dragon Age Inquisition profile. The colour depth is displayed as 32bit, and I don't get any other options.

Thanks for the reply Asa :)

That's the same driver as I am using so that isn't the issue then. Hmm really starting to think it may be a dodgy adapter to be honest.

Thanks again mate, much appreciated.
