I was caught by a speeding camera in a 30 zone doing roughly 35mph, just wasn't paying attention to the speedo, however there was another car in the other lane right next to me so who knows may not of been me... anyway what can I expect? as in the wait for a letter, will I definitely receive points etc.

If i'm right, if it exceeds 14 days then I'm clear? am I also right in presuming if I do the course, the offence would still go down on my insurance?

If you do the course then you do not get penalised by your insurance company but the Police do record it and won't offer you another...

It was purely accidental, as said just wasn't paying attention to the speedo as it didn't feel very fast to me at all (also just a few personal things going on right now) so it wouldn't be something to happen again my concern is just being penalised by insurance with being 20 and looking towards getting an Abarth 500 in February as with insurance costing approximately £800 as it is I didn't wish to get screwed further.

Could have been me or the other guy as he wasn't much behind me, fingers crossed then it gets ignored, bad time to get caught out really just as my insurance is about to run up. Hopefully if I am sent a letter I can just do the course, not receive an increased premium and still be able to have the Abarth at a reasonable premium.

They check distance traveled between the 2 shots. Wouldn't worry about an SP30 tbh, it won't make THAT much of a difference in insurance. It's when you get 2 or more it becomes a problem

Fingers crossed then, I'd presume with age i'd get screwed over, considering I want to move up to a 1.4T 135BHP car, for all I know could be worrying over nothing and not even receive a letter.

Hope so, I know what my mum is like she'd go ballistic even though it wasn't intentional. It was on the left hand side so it would be facing the back of my car as I went past it. It's in Staffordshire on the A50 Potteries way.

An Abarth is 160bhp isn't it?

That's not that particularly powerful, I'm fairly sure insurance won't be much for it anyway

Also I'm sure 135bhp and 0-60 in 8flat is fast for a 20 year old whos been driving around in (what I can only assume) is a cheap first car with ~60bhp

Worth pointing out that any NIP would be sent to the registered keeper of the vehicle. And that the '2 week' period being mentioned is the time for the registered keeper to be informed about any NIP - any delay beyond two weeks in reaching the actual driver doesn't matter.

Are you the registered keeper?

If you get anything it'll be 3 points and a small fine OR the option of the speed awareness course. You were semi on the borderline (dependent on your speedo) where they might use their discretion anyway and not give you anything.

Yeah I'm the registered keeper. Oh yeah the Abarth is more than quick enough for me, not after a car that has a huge top speed just one with abit of go in it (you guessed right I own a 1.2 60BHP punto) guess I'll just have to wait.

When I redid my insurance a few of the companies specifically asked if I had been on any driver awareness courses.

not sure how they would find out if you said no mind

You weren't doing exactly 35, more like 33 as your speedo will be over-reading a shade. I got a speed awareness course for 32 in a 30 ages ago. Speedo was reading around 34/35.

When I redid my insurance a few of the companies specifically asked if I had been on any driver awareness courses.

They ask regardless, only the police keep a record of the awareness course and it won't be shared with anyone else. This is what I was told when I asked about it when it was given to me. I guess they ask anyway because it gives them some fuel to keep their own record and increase your premium should you say yes.

Sure someone will be in shortly with the rod of correction...

The speedo read just under 40 so about 38 thus around 35, although I've accidentlally gone through some that quick before and they've not gone off, tbh I told my insurance about an accident that wasn't my fault, uninsured driver hit the back of my car and that rocketed my premium up even though it wasn't me, so if I don't have to tell them I won't.
