390X or 980ti - which one are you going for?

AMD 4 LYFE. Honestly though, I will sit the 300 series out as my 290 PCS still demolishes everything at my current res of 1080.

When the 1440 FreeSync monitors come out that may change though.

390x all the way, had too much trouble with Nvidia cards, i'll stick with what I know works. Should be a nice upgrade from my oc 7970 that i've had since launch with zero issues

390x most likely but will wait to see what nv relese before buying im not to fussed about brand as both have work flawless for me over the years.
Going by history, it would most likely be the case of AMD launch 390x at may be £420-£440, and then Nvidia will release a card around 5% faster to 1up over AMD's flagship, and then put the price tag of £150 over AMD's flagship to the £570-£650 price bracket.

Going by history, it would most likely be the case of AMD launch 390x at may be £420-£440, and then Nvidia will release a card 1-2 months later 5% faster to 1up over AMD's flagship, and then put the price tag of £150 over AMD's flagship to the £570-£650 price bracket.

Also releasing after AMD would also mean they will be able to decide on what clock speed to use after comparing to AMD's new flagship, and have complete control on how much faster than AMD's flagship they want their card out of the box, and then market the hack out of it/sending samples to reviewers to have the AMD beating benckmarks paste all over the internet.

Rumour has it that the new cards will have only 4 GB VRAM. If that's the case I'll be sitting out this round: it's not enough for 4K. I'll likely sit out at 6 GB too. But a 12 GB Titan 2 at a reasonable price might stir me.

Just going to wait for both! Too much speculation and i can see the 390x being a great card with some great performance! But i have a feeling it will be like a 290x when it comes to power and heat! But the 980Ti has the potential to be a monster card! Especially when you see power consumption and heat the current 970/80 cards make! Can't wait to see! :D

Whilst I do agree in general with you, it is not always the case, what was the difference between the 680 and the 7970 at release?

Now we know the 7970 pulled ahead with driver optimisations later on but not at release. Since then they have got a bit out of step with each other. One good thing of recent times is that the 980/70 release brought the 290p/x prices down.

Everyone is a winner :)

Both, whichever ones turns out best for 4K will be my next GPU. As long as they are over 25% faster than my GTX980.

Well i'm now down to a single GTX 780 as one died without warning and my partner isn't getting along too well with her Radeon R9 280X either. I was thinking about getting a pair of 970's or a single 980 and giving my 780 to my partner, but the huge coil whine issue has put me off buying a new card at the moment.

I might wait and see what the 380X and 980 Ti are like before I buy anything now.

Doh meant to reply to this one... if true it would beat a 295X2 with drivers.

Can't see the 390X beating a 295X2, That would be a HUGE jump in generational performance.

Would be nice but I can't see it realistically, More like a 390X being in the region of 40% on top of a 290X.

I saw this on Anandtech forums:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=37088956&postcount=145

Supposed 3DMark score of R9 380X/R9 390X. It could be a fake.

290X: 2816 Shaders @ 1000Mhz, 64 ROP's, Memory Bandwidth 320GB/s (Die Size 431mm^2)

Speculating-

390X: 3240 Shaders @ 1050Mhz, 96 ROP's, Memory Bandwidth 640GB/s (HBM), Texture Compression. (Die Size 495mm^2)

+ Shaders = 15%, +50Mhz = 5%, + ROP's = 50%, + Memory Bandwidth = 100%, + Texture Compression. (Tonga vs Tahiti + 10% Avr)

Performance: Shaders + 10%, 50Mhz +3%, ROP's + 20%, Memory Bandwidth + 30%, Texture Compression + 10% = 73% ???????
