A Budget Gaming Build AMD/Intel

Is the AMD Athlon X4 860K Black Edition going to work in an FM2+ socket? I thought it was an FM2+ CPU, but apparently it's just an FM2 CPU. The board I want is an FM2+ socket.

Hello, yes that FM2+ motherboard is compatible. I just checked.

Have never seen Stulid make a mistake, also in one of his replies to you he did state, quote "The boards support the CPU."-unquote.

On some websites the AMD Athlon X4 860K Black Edition is classed as a FM2+ CPU and on others, they say it is a FM2 CPU. It's the same for that motherboard.

Both the Gigabyte G1.Sniper and the Gigabyte F2A88X-D3H motherboards are compatible with that AMD CPU.

The AMD Athlon X4 860K Black Edition is Socket FM2 on OCUK. Certain other retailers list it as being Socket FM2+. Now that is what is confusing me because I don't know which is the correct one. Is the CPU itself FM2 or FM2+? Having found out it works in the required motherboard either way, I'm not too bothered now. It's just I was curious as I'd seen other posts on forums about making sure the BIOS was ready otherwise I might run into installation problems like the BIOS not being updated to accept the CPU.

Agreed, sometimes info is not totally complete on the website (it's very rare though!).

However if someone here who has a great many posts answers someone who ask's for a spec, please be assured, they do not make mistakes. These guys and gals really know their stuff, nobody here would knowingly give anyone even slightly wrong info. That just would not happen.

Also, if you are unsure of anything, you can always post a question in the Customer Service section! They are very happy to help anyone.

Shopping for a PSU is difficult. I want something with a high wattage so I don't need to upgrade my PSU should I ever come to upgrade the system. I know people get annoyed with the term "future proof", but I'd rather spend more on a PSU now than have to spend more when I come to upgrade my CPU/GPU.
