So i was talking to one of my guys during shift change over and he had brought what i thought was a gun into work, after catching the last half of the conversation. It turns out it was a receiver for an AR15. Apparently he builds them for a hobby. One of the welders asked him to build one for him if he bought the parts.

Fast forward to today and i asked him why he didnt go and work for sig sauer or ruger ( both not far from here ) and he said he only did it as a hobby. He said the AR15 came out fantastic and the welder loved it.

While chatting to the welder he said he shot it for the first time today and loved it. We got around to why he bought an AR15 and he said because he was under 21 he wasn't allowed by law to have a Hand gun, only an assault rifle !!

Thats the American way i guess..

Sort of makes sense really. Anyone could conceal a handgun on their person and do a lot of damage, whereas walking around on the streets with an assault rifle poking out your pocket might raise a few eyebrows.

Then again I'm against all this gun-law nonsense to begin with so I'm probably not the best person to comment on this.

Agreed, but in a country which will quite literally kill itself fighting for its gun rights, you have to find logic in it somewhere.

Gets my vote any day

we have open carry in this state, so you can wander around with your gun, there was a rally in manchester ( New hampshire one ) and people had their ar15's and wotnot slung over their shoulders etc. Most of the guys at work have guns in their cars and most have conceal carry permits.

It is crazy the amount of people who i work with that have guns on them as soon as they leave work.

It's the part everything attaches to afaik. It's the thing they're up in arms about due to people putting the specs online to create one without a serial number(which doesn't make sense to me).

It's not an assault rifle as it will be semi-auto only.

Also it's logical, rifles are less problematic pistols, in the UK for example you can rifles, but not pistols.

sadly its not illegal in the US lol

you can "make" (usually from an almost complete receiver that you just finish off) the only bit that is normally licenced, and then assemble it into a full rifle using "accessories" (like a stock or handguard) so that you dont have to licence / register it

Also it's the licensed part.

That's my understanding, because it's the part which has the serial number on it. Even is States with no licencing of real worth, that serial number is how the weapon can be traced. To the more rabid Second Amendment misinterpreters, having a firearm that can't be traced is important.

Mmmm, tasty (and expensive) ARs.
