Is there anywhere I can check what the difference in performance would be in these 2 cards?

or even better does anyone know off the top of their head or tested it?

Cheers

Because of the age difference , benches are no doubt difficult to find comparing. But the performance difference is going to be astronomical

I have a 290 pcs+ which is the same performance as a stock 290x and i had a 5770 years back. The performance difference is absolutely huge. I had a 6870 after the 5770 which was nearly twice as fast. My 290 is probably 3 times faster than the 6870 at 1200p.

You'll be seeing a massive difference. I moved from a 5770 to a 6850 and saw some significant improvements, and then jumped onto a 7950 with even bigger improvements. The 290X compared to that is even further. You're going to love your 290X :p.

Two 5770s was about 10 percent faster than a 5870. I would say the 290x is about the same as CFX 5870 so you're talking four times the performance. As has been mentioned - astronomical.

I'm going to go ahead and buy one tonight. My system is 2500k @4.2ghz 8gb ram but had a feeling the card was letting me down big time. I only play wow so wasn't sure how much of a difference it would have made to me, but I couldn't play at any higher than low > fair settings without some fps lag. Hope this helps quite a bit.

Oh yes and I know wow is a cup dependent game, but thought te card was struggling anyway.

Cheers

What would the Wright Brothers make of this?

As someone who had CFX 5770s, and 5850s, and a 7850, then CFX 7950s, then a 290X (which was only slightly slower than CFX 7950s), performance will be even more.

Gonna be a huge upgrade, today i've just gone from a 4890 to a 280x and the difference in performance in Rust @ 1980x1200 is erm, large....

After waiting this long I gotta ask, Why not wait for the 300 series? If not for even more improvements (especially heat & power as the 290x's replacement the 380x is meant to improve on that and if that's not reason enough then at least it'll cause 290x prices to drop, however briefly.
