So I've just bought a wall mount for my 40" TV and I need a decent drill to mount it.
The drill I have is really old and barely does the job. My walls are rock solid brick after the first inch of cement/plaster and are incredibly hard to drill into.
So I need a new drill that will make the job easier.
What would you guys recommend? Nothing overly expensive please. I'd like to keep it below £100 if possible.

Cheers.

The best way to drill neat holes into brick is an SDS drill, can get a corded model for ~£60. You COULD use a hammer combi drill, but it will take longer and give a worse hole. SDS however is not useful for anything other than masonry!

I have been through quite a few 'Cheap' drills over the years. Would love to find one that lasts and does the job!

Current drill is Ryobi. Rubbish!! Sorry but absolute rubbish! Would never buy again!

Don't blame you :p

Hitatchi stuff is decent though and not a bad price.

Dewalt, Makita, Hitatchi and Bosch are the ones I'd look at but I don't rate the consumer Makita stuff; their pro (ie more expensive) stuff is great though.

Well the Ryobi one linked above is in stock in my local BnQ so I might go down and grab one. There's a couple of you saying it's not a good drill tho... so what would the best brand be? Dewalt or Bosch? I'm guessing I'm gonna need at least an 800W for solid masonry work.

I'm not too bothered about getting an SDS if it's better. I never drill into anything other than brick or concrete so that wouldnt be a problem.

A 5kg SDS is a little overkill for a TV bracket :D, but you can't argue with that price.

As you get a selection of drills with it i'd go through with a smaller drill first then the 10mm or whatever your final hole size is. Just to minimize the chance of cracking the brick.

Yeah honestly, whatever makes drilling easier is welcomed. Im not particularly strong physically, and I really don't weight a lot, so idealy I need something that can drill through solid brick without too much effort.
And yeah, I always drill pilot holes before drilling the right size :P

Seen many good reviews of the Titan SDS for the price. Whacking a few screw holes in a brick wall won't over stress it at all. My preferred brand is bosch, but that's because I have a selection of bosch professional 18V stuff.

Just thought I would update this thread after using the TITAN SDS. This thing is an absolute beast! It made short work on my solid wall. 3 inch deep holes took no longer than 5 seconds to drill each. With my old drill, it used to take me 5 minutes to drill one hole!
Absolutely amazing piece of hardware for £50!

Great to know, I've been considering buying one for a while as I don't have much brick but decent to have when I need it. Will get one and a 450mm bit :)
