In before the "They sent me a well packaged, properly insured house brick" :D

Even if it is lost? That is bizarre. So they have full tracking but still say they have no clue where it is?

Do you work for Royal Mail then?

Not Royal Mail, but a competitor.

But basically yes. They don't know where it is, but they know where it isn't, especially when it shouldn't be there.

If a parcel gets a scan at the sort centre, but not at the local hub the next morning something has gone wrong. And their tracking system will flag that to managers at the sort and hub.

Customer facing and staff facing tracking info are different, depending on what's paid for.

I simply do not believe that RM signed for does this. When i have had things go missing or delayed in the past no one at RM has had a clue where it was, where it has been etc and simply said it only gets scanned at delivery.

Regardless, even if what you say is true, i find it hard to believe they were convinced it was completely lost and contacted the seller the morning it was supposed to be delivered to tell him that !

I might be wrong but I just find it all very, very hard to believe when my experience of these services does not hint to any of it being remotely plausible.

Exactly my thoughts, and why would they contact him at 6.40am in the morning to tell him its lost on the day it was due to be delivered? That is some pro-active customer service

The fact that items in the post hardly go missing ( in my experience ) and the only time I get an item which isn't tracked, go missing

He said he would send it as parcelforce on the page, yet he then picks royal mail economy untracked, says a lot

I have sold many items on ebay, and bought many items on ebay, and any person would know that you send a high value item as tracked, so your both covered, plus I'm pretty sure there's no compensation with royal mail economy

Also, if it is always tracked internally with signed for then why is it cheaper? Surely it is in one connected system and the fact they can provide the signed for service cheaper is because they DON'T have to track it everywhere. if they do track all signed for post at every stage surely they might as well display it on their tracking system? After all, the tracking for RM special delivery says to ignore certain updates as they are for internal use only, so they must use similar/the same system.

He replied two days before with,

" It is, but it is not a track and trace item, which means it will only correspond information when it is scan on arrival as it is a scan on arrival parcel. Basically let's me know it has been received successfully.
Regards your item will arrive on the due day quoted in my previous correspondence."

It's cheaper because we don't have to PROVIDE tracking. Do you really think any delivery company has enough time and staff to pick and chose what is and isn't scanned? Also, the main sort machines NEED to scan the parcel, the routing information is in the barcode.

Yes because all the post Royal Mail deal with have barcodes...

Basically I bought a samsung s6 for £255, the person had 100 percent feedback, 21 users

I bought it last thursday, they sent it royal mail economy, even though the page said it would be sent parcelforce.. that should have sent alarm bells ringing

However, they said it would be here wednesday. They didnt have a tracking number, they said " It is, but it is not a track and trace item, which means it will only correspond information when it is scan on arrival as it is a scan on arrival parcel. Basically let's me know it has been received successfully."

Anyway, I said last night, this was a risky, today I got this email

" Item has gone astray in post. I was told so by royal mail. You will be issued with a refund."

and then 2 minutes later at 644

"You will have to make a traditional claim. You can start by listing the item as not received on eBay. As it won't let me refund you automatically you will have to list it as item not received."

so it sounds like I have been scammed, a claim would take 8 days, so I guess they know how to do this and are stalling for time

Any ideas what to do?

Report them as a Non Performing Seller, its not for them to decide its lost in the post its the buyer when it doesn't arrive!

Sounds like he didn't get the money he was hoping for and is reneging on the deal and re-listing it. Classic attempt to pull one over the buyers eyes. Don't let him get away with it. You can't make him send it but you can report and you will get your money back, a couple more stunts like that and he'll be given the boot from the 'bay.

I will do, after he refunds me my money :)

How do I go about reporting them?

No refund as yet..

I like how you posted that sarcastically thinking that it doesn't... :D

Go and look at a recently delivered envelope. Notice the black or orange lines on the front? There's your barcode - it doesn't look like a conventional barcode, but it's a barcode nonetheless ;)
