My brother takes a taxi to and from work, tonight he went to BK on the way home. On the journey home the taxi took a corner hard and apologized, this hard turn caused a milkshake my bro was holding to fall on the floor, spilling some. When he got home the driver called up HQ and the 3 of them start rucking. They wanted him to pay a £70 fine to cover cleaning costs and lost work and threatened to report him to the police if he didn't pay, my brother claimed it was the drivers fault for reckless driving, then the driver said something in whatever language and suddenly the guy at HQ says the fine is now £40, I presume the driver admitted some liability. After some more rucking the driver started saying £20 which my brother still denied.

After that all I know is my brother paid his fare and refused to get back into the car at the drivers request, at which point the driver threw his hands in the air got in the car and drove off.

He must have been driving like an absolute lunatic to cause a passenger to drop something. Or the passenger wasn't holding it very well. It would depend which it was as to how much guilt I might feel toward dropping a milkshake in a taxi.

"threatened to report him to the police if he didn't pay"

I am sure they would have been real interested in this....

How hard was he going round a corner for him to drop it? I think this is one of them you needed to be there to see the situation kinda questions,

"If you weren't driving like an idiot it wouldn't have happened. Be grateful you are getting the fare!" something like that... :p

Unless I were on my own and the taxi driver was big and scary... I'm not sure what I'd do then!

Perhaps, "Hang on a minute..." And then go inside, lock the door, and play some videogames.

Difficult to say without being there

But if it is as said the driver should be buying your bro another milkshake

I wouldn't have paid.

One of the reasons i am such a fan of uber is the accountability. Where does the taxi driver get off yelling at his customer and demanding money for what appears to be an accident.

Passenger's responsibility 100%. The taxi driver has to drive, he's not your brother's minder, you are your younger brother's minder, he should never have to concern himself with some children spilling milk everywhere, especially while driving.

Tell your bro to man up and hold his milkshake tighter next time, it's what I would do as a responsible older brother, otherwise he will never learn and next time a driver drives spiritedly he's simply going to get scared again.

Seriously, that cabbie has probably taken thousands upon thousands of turns like that, he should not have to worry himself with people who get scared of his quick service and quite literally start losing their grip.
