3rd time my PC has frozen - windows 10

I'd strongly suspect one of the RAM modules.
Try swapping out pairs if you have 4 or more.

When I put the entire PC together it wouldn't start, and it eventually turned out that the 2x 8gb ram didn't want to work in the black channels on the motherboard. I switched to grey and it worked. Do you think this is related?

After updating BIOS to F6h I've had no freezes thus far (it's been 2-3 hours).

In general most freezes tend to be a problem with RAM.
Not sure why it would work in some channels and not others tbh. I'm not that upto date on computers as its been 5 years or so since i did my last build. So it could be something thats new tech.

Keep an eye on it since the update, could be some sort of issue with the bios and windows 10 which has since been rectified.
However if it happens again try swapping out the ram or even using one ram module at a time if thats possible nowadays.

Try re-seating the RAM

:)

One at a time if necessary and re-seat the GPU too ,just remove it for a minute and put it back in.

I guess it's a static build up that causes these issues that just depends on circumstantial or environmental conditions and a simple re fit sorts it out?
Or maybe when you re-seat it you get better connections because or slight oxidisation on the contacts?

Making the black RAM slots available will probably be a BIOS setting too or the mobo's UEFI settings.

Fingers crossed for you that your bios update fixed your freezing.. however if it was me and it freezes again get mem test lit up and test the memory as it is...

I've found that Memtest isn't a particularly good test. It was Prime95 that was key in detecting the dodgy memory for me.

Another freeze today. First after the bios update. So I guess that didn't fix. Changing RAM back to black channels and it boots up now. I'll see how it goes now :/

Also who the hell designed it so you can't get the GPU out once it's clicked into place.. It's literally never coming out now. So badly designed. I'm so annoyed.

Of course the GPU's can come out. Towards the back of the PCI-E slot is a little catch you normally have to push it sideways which releases the card and it will then lift straight up.

This goes back to 2005/6 does it not? Then before that it was the pressure like springy clip. You had to hold it then slip the card out.

Besides, is it even wise flashing the rom with a sporadically locking system?

The ram sounds suspect here, try running the pc with just one stick, also I would run memtest for about 4 full phases. A lot of people are content with the first phase passing, but I have had a fail in third phase in the past.

Failing this it could be an unstable overclock, gpu or a failing psu. My money would be on the ram however.

Well, I just checked dxdiag and it says it only recognises 8gb...... something isn't right :/

if the ram is okay after testing I would check for possible bent pins in your cpu tray (worst case scenario).Does each slot work when booting with just one stick? Check each slot.

Also out of curiosity is it a matched ram kit of the same size or a mix/matched kit.I had experience with a gigabyte x58 motherboard that was very sensitive to mixing ram especially with the voltage applied to it.

Dula trriple and quad channel only works if the modules are of the same size if memory serves me correct.
