Been offered the K712 for £125 full boxed, or the HD650 (no box) for £145 (both used)

Going to send back the DT990 (great sound, but the treble is too harsh and tiring, plus ive caught the bug to upgrade now) to amazon and sell my Hyper X cloud II to fund this.

I have a Xonar STX soundcard.

time using is probably 60% gaming, 40% music.

Any idea on which i should go for?

They are both sublime, but which you choose depends on your preference with regards to sound signatures.

Check out reviews on both and decide which sound signature appeals to you :)

I doubt you'd have a hard time selling the one you don't like on in the MM (to me if its the 650's) for what you paid, Or more on the bay ;)

unfortunately my money doesnt go that far to get both :p

I ended up with the K712 as im mainly gaming and the only complaint i hear about on the HD650 is soundstage size.

Not having the box and accessories also was a little annoying with the HD650

If never choose the K712 over the 650. Resolution differences are quite apparent with the 650 having a snappier driver and a much better tone. The K712 became almost impossible to listen to because it's upper end peak is too much.

The K712 is a very good headphone but there's a difference when you listen to something like the 650.

Not having the box isn't s big deal and it doesn't really come with anything.

I was waiting for you to pop in and make me regret the K712 :P

i really respect your feelings to headphones as you have tried so many. I think i would have got the 650 if it was 100% music, but a lot of things i read about the sound stage put me off it, not that it's bad or anything, just that its not as good as the K712 and also maybe the sub bass

I have the HD650 and K702 (bass port modded) and prefer the AKG for gaming - so the K712 should be better again.

Music though, HD650 all day (and night) long :)

Had the k712 and loved them, only downside I found for me was the fit and sounded different where they were placed on the ear, the 650s fit my head just perfect

Out of interest i have a small head, I dont use any of the extension on any headphones, they are always on the lowest possible.

Is this a good or bad thing for K712?

The soundstage isn't tiny but it is a warm headphone and it can make things appear a lot fuller and sultry. I personally always keep my gaming headphones separate from my music headphone as rarely are headphone amazing in both but the AKG 712 + K612 are very good so you've done well :)

Thanks, im slightly worried ive gone from Clouds>>DT990>>K712 in the space of 30 days!

ive been lucky with prices thought and im not keeping the DT990.

The headphone bug is a serious condition. I don't even want to think about how much I've spent in the last 6 years! I'm finally done though and sticking with my LCD-2's for music.

Making gaming PC my priority so need to save as much as possible.

That mean you're selling your HD650s (again)? :D :p
