Almost hit by a bus this morning

Just to make this very clear, I was crossing the road when the bus started moving, not I started crossing the road when the bus was moving.

It amazed me how many people read one or two replies and jump to conclusions when a simple read through the thread would prevent you looking like such an ignorant idiot.

You know who you are.

Surely the only thing we are going to see on that video is a person running in front of a bus and driver skilfully avoiding accident?

Btw, you don't word request under DPA in form of "please provide footage of me crossing A23", them CCTV footages they don't all go to the same place, there is no Ministry Of Cameras where day manager can should "get me all footage of Diddums on A23 Chloe, now!" in Jack Bauer voice and then send it to you - you need to request specific time frame from specific camera on specific pole or vehicle.

yeah, the bus, he gave the time the bus stop and the reg of the bus....

i imagine they would understand thatto be the camera on the front of the bus?

Standing in front of the bus was a really dumb move. Can't stand when people people bang on the doors or shout at the driver, or when people on the trains hold the doors open.

The driver has to stick to schedule as much as possible, and he has to draw the line somewhere on when he closes the doors and moves on. What if there was someone else behind you, should he wait for them too? And what if there was someone behind them? If he keeps waiting for every person to run and get on the bus he would never leave the stop.

I can't believe there is no "I had a madman trying to throw himself under my bus this morning" thread yet! for shame GD :p

OP while I understand your frustrations, life is too short. I have to remind myself of this on my drive to work every morning

Ommmmmmmm

No, you're not all the same. London seems to bread a special kind of dick bus driver, those outside of London are much much better.

There's nothing wrong with stopping for a few seconds to pick up another passenger, if he's running for the bus it's because he's desperate, probably late for his job in circumstances not of his own making, or he needs to go somewhere urgent and if he's late then that person will be in trouble of some kind. It's all about customer service and London Bus driver has slim to none. It's the zero flexibility that irks a lot of people.

A fee seconds per bus stop soon and up over the corse of a mornings work, we in the southwest are allocated a 3 second time span per customer no average loading of two customers per stop. On average I have 30 bus stops between Bath and Bristol an journey time of 55mins without traffic. In that 55minutes I will see on average 90 passengers. It dosent take long for your time to run away from you.

You know who you are.

so the bus started moving only to find you in the way, the fact it had started moving indicates that it had left the stop and the driver, instead of running you over, was waiting until the road was clear before going further

So to get it straight, you was late for your bus and decided to try and make it late also by crossing in front of a moving vehicle, endangering other road users and passengers?

Good one, nearly had me going there for a while.

While I sympathise with you, I can also see the perspective of the driver. If he waited for every slightly late passenger who happened to be running across the road, he would be waiting all day. They have to make a choice as to when to close the door and not let anybody else on, even if it looks like it's just them being awkward to you. Although I do suspect he was possibly reckless in regards to driving off with you still in the road.

No, the bus started moving because he saw me. As I've said numerous times, his doors were still open, standing stationary. He saw me, waited for the last passenger to get on, and quickly shut his doors and floored it, well aware that he was being a dick. This wasn't someone in a hurry because he was running late, this wasn't someone trying to stick to a timetable, this was someone just being a dick, plain and simple.

I don't bang on buses either, I'm not some 3rd world degenerate (most of the time), if I miss a bus I miss a bus, I simply wait for the next one. I catch buses to at least twice a day on weekdays and have for the last ten years. I'm more than familiar with the way things work, today's experience was a completely different scene however.

He was standing still when he saw me. He floored it. I waved at him and moved towards him to make sure he saw me. At this point he was barely moving but still accelerating. He, whilst still looking at me, swerved across two lanes (he wasn't on the actual "road" when I tried to flag him down, he was still in one of those bus stop recess things).

His attitude when I caught him was what sold it to me. Had he simply explained why he did what he did that would've been it, after all it cost me maybe two minutes to my journey, but his very obvious "don't give a ****" attitude and the way he pulled out again was what pushed me over the edge.

At the end of the day it's easy for everyone to judge based on what I've said, maybe I've described it poorly, but it happened and I was there. I'm not an idiot, I don't go running in front of moving buses or flagging buses in motion down, if I thought what I did was dangerous or in any way hindered traffic I wouldn't have done it, but I didn't so I did.

Simple really.

is a bus driver under any obligation to wait for a passenger if he sees them running towards the stop?

I've seen this happen before but generally I arrive at the stop earlier to make sure I'm there on time.

Arriva drivers here in Darlington are mostly very good, they do pick people up who flag them down away from a bus stop. There is one guy though on a route I take who is an a complete ass wipe. Stroppy little tosspot he is. Good and bad where ever you go though.

Yep. Don't get me wrong I'm not tarnishing all with the same brush, we have some very pleasant drivers too but that goes for everywhere I suppose.
