DX12 performance review in current games(Crimson 16.4.2 vs GeForce 364.96)

Don't get it the AMD vs AMD scores go up by about 1-2fps...

In performance terms over the board they reckoned it was around a 3-5% gain. If they can keep these kind of gains coming then they will turn into decent fps. You should never look at gains in the form of fps as if your fps is 30 and you gain 3 fps that's a 10% gain which is pretty big. If you gain 9fps at 90 for 99fps which is still 10% but gaining 9 fps sounds way better.

No surprise, AMD's GNC design is ideal for DX12 so long as Async shaders are enabled games can fully maximise all those shaders that weren't always being fully used under DX11.

This is based on AMD slides right?
Probably best taken with a pinch of salt then, same as when Nvidia release comparison graphs...

Overclock3d tested themselves
Conclusion

When looking at AMD's Radeon Software Crimson 16.4.2 drivers I cannot help but be impressed, while the performance gains we see here are not earth-shattering, they are consistent and apply to all of the DirectX 12 games that we tested.
While framerate gains of around 5% may not be much, they are certainly welcome, especially when it applies to minimum framerates. Remember that these changes came from the Driver alone, with no changes made to the tested games or to the hardware.
This new driver was not made to improve the performance of these specific games, but to the DirectX 12 API as a whole, meaning that these gains should be seen in all future games running on the DirectX 12 API, which will certainly give AMD an advantage moving forward.
Since the release of AMD's Radeon Software Crimson Drivers back in November 2015 I have been impressed by the progress that AMD has made when it comes to GPU drivers, releasing a new game optimised driver with every major game release and with fewer bugs or other issues than they ever have before.
It is my hope that AMD will be able to keep up this momentum and continue to release regular, stable drivers for their users, as it not only pleases consumers but leads the way towards a more competitive and reliable PC gaming industry.
AMD's Catalyst 16.4.2 driver may not set the world on fire, but it does provide API wide performance gains that will no doubt please a lot of AMD's current and future users. It is still far top early to say who offers the best GPUs for DirectX 12 gaming, but right now AMD does seem to have the advantage.

Doh! Didn't see there were more pages.

A little confused when they say flagship cards from AMD and Nvidia but then proceed to not test the Titan X...

Also of the 4 games tested I believe 2 are AMD partner games aren't they? (Hitman and Ashes)
Only one is Nvidia sponsored.

Also, 4 games...

Are Overclock3d now being paid off by AMD?

Good to see AMD drivers improving though.

it was'nt that long ago peolpe on this forum where saying OC3D where in nvidias pockets lol.

Still it relay good to see ho much more on the ball AMD have been with there drivers the past 6 months. Keep it up and ill consider them again for my next GPU :)

Great that AMD are getting some boosts in DX12 but DX11 is still superior for NVIDIA users. It would be good to see both using DX12 and it giving viable gains but as a current Nvidia user, I am not impressed thus far.
