Are parking tickets from private companies enforceable?

I went to an industrial estate a few months ago to visit an office furniture company and when i got back to my car i had been given a parking ticket. I went back to furniture place and the guy i'd been dealing with told me the tickets aren't enforceable and the had loads of them and never paid.

Fast forward 3 months and i'm now getting letters from a debt recovery company about said ticket which is a little alarming. Does anyone know if the guy from the furniture shop was right or if he was just BS'ing me? The ticket company is Parking Ticketing Ltd FWIW.

Thanks

I think they can be these days post-wheel clamping on private property being outlawed in England and Wales

though whether your particular ticket is enforceable is another matter

one way to deal with this type of extortion is to write back to them asking to document and verify the obligation to pay said fine/debt. i doubt very much that they can!
or
pop letter back into the envelope and on a sticker over the window put this:

RETURN TO SENDER
I DO NOT RECOGNISE YOU
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR INTENT
I DO NOT HAVE AN INTERNATIONAL TREATY WITH YOU
NO ASSURED VALUE NO LIABILITY

and send it to whence it came, this is what i would personally do.
and do the same with any further correspondence and get on with your life:p

Do you wear your tin foil hat as you write that, Sir? :p

You can try to appeal it if you have ground's to do so. There was a time when these could be ignored as they had no way of finding out your personal information, but they can now get this from the DVLA. This is how they will know your address.

You could try to ignore it further and might get away with it but if they do decide to take it to small claims court you could end up paying the fine anyway plus court costs.

Pop over to the pepipoo forums which will help you with exactly what you need, it's a whole forum dedicated to stuff like this and you'll likely get more sound advice there.

I posted on the MoneySavingExpert forums who have a very active parking fine forum. They've advised me that i can no longer appeal due to the length of time its been and that my best course of action is to speaking to retail place i was visiting and ask them to have it quashed. Regardless of whether or not they agree to try I should then wait to see if the parking company actually submit a legal claim/court action or whatever.

Depends. Most you can ignore and they don't bother chasing you beyond a few snotty letters. Some will, BUT if something is even slightly out of place (e.g. font on signage to small) they won't win.

It costs more for them to chase individuals who are being difficult than to just let it go. Don't fall for the threatening language on letters.

Just don't ignore council ones because they CAN come after you.

I sent a letter to one years ago, cant remember but I did ask them for visual proof , and tolf then that the current fine was excessive, and fines can only be carried out buy .
wheel clamping should not charge more than a reasonable release fee

Yeah you can always trust the council to spend £2000 chasing after a £100 fine. :p

Nope.

Use Dealing with Bailiff forums. They give you all the stances of law plus case law. I directed a colleague there. She was at the "kick your door in" phase and was about to pay but stopped after advice on there. Never heard from them again.

Yea, they aren't allowed to kick your door in lol. The bailiffs they send out have no powers what so ever really. If you don't cooperate there's nothing they can do.

An order has to come from the high court before they can force anything I think. They won't get that for a measly parking ticket.
