wtf is going on with sentencing in this country?



Giving Ahmed a two-year detention and training order, of which he will spend 12 months in custody, Judge Ebraham Mooncey said: "This is a very serious case and when one looks at the facts, had you been an adult you would be looking at a very lengthy sentence indeed. All in all, you would have been leaving this court with six or seven years today."

But, he said, he had taken into account that Ahmed was only 16 and the difficulties he had had in his life

Wtf I really couldn't care what "difficulties" someone's had in their life to do such a thing is sub human. I can't imagine any "difficulties" that actually would mitigate his sentence.

Chances are she's lost her life and he's got 12 months... Such a bad joke.

Taking into account the difficulties a person has had in their life is all well and good, but within limits. 12 months for torture is not what I would consider within reasonable limits for that. 12 years would be a lenient sentence for what he did.
 
No difficulties in life can justify such a paltry sentence, I wonder how many people he will kill in 12 months time when he's released...
 
He most certainly deserves longer time than that. Such a shame he can't spend a few hours a day in the stocks as a starter.
 
I think he should be released, given a new identity, job, home and compensation because of the difficulties in his life. His victim should be made to do 12months /neoliberalism

I'm wondering what sort of would we're living in when A) a 16 year old is doing stuff like this and B) the parents of the presumably similar age girl don't notice anything
