Has anyone worked in Saudi Arabia

Ok I havent lived in Saudi, but I do have business over there which requires me to go a couple of times a year.

I enjoy the country and the business I do there is massively worthwhile from a financial perspective (p.s I am not involved in oil). Would I want to live there? Absolutely no. When I travel abroad (which is frequent) if my children are on a school break I take the family with me, I NEVER take them to SA though.

p.s : I havent seen anyone being beheaded, I havent seen anyone being flogged in the streets, I havent seen anyone having their hands chopped, I havent seen any elements of Jihad or indeed any racism or xenophobia towards me but the country is extremely restrictive with the do and do nots. To be fair though this it is similar to other Islamic countries I have been to (Pakistan and Iran).

It was an aside referencing another backwards/less liberal culture, yes.. you've then made some observations, seemingly trying to counter it that in reality have little to do with countering what was said as I've already pointed out.

Gender segregation does exist in Indian society though not to the same extent as Saudi:

I live in India for most of the year, and the difference between gender segregation in SA and India is night and day, and also very very dependent on where you go to.

If you live in one of the large cities (I have homes in Ahmedabad and Mumbai) gender segregation simply doesn't exist from my perspective. I am really surprised by that Quora link because it is something that I, my wife and her friends do not feel is relevant to their experience in India. In fact the only segregation I have ever seen relates to security screening at the airports. This though relates more to protecting female modesty than anything insidious.

However with a country as diverse in its demographic as its geography and culture and if you go to the small towns and the villages its like taking a step back in time. Education deprivation and age old customs that are not open to any form of reasoned criticism by its population do mean that woman get the harsh end of the deal in any relationship. The Indian 'rape' culture is a direct result of these 'graameenons' and their background, or lack of.

Fortunately India (unlike SA) is a country that is trying to enforce a liberal mindset, and it is open to ideas and western ideologies which Islamic countries for the most part are not.
