This is tempting, very tempting. Is it enough of a jump from my 980 Ti though? And so close to AMD's next release, and Nvidia's counter move...

A waste of money Imo. Overclock the 980ti and wait for something better than this.

This Windforce 1080 is a great deal deal considering the market at the moment, 120 pounds less than the G1 model I was comparing it too. While they are both Windforce cards the G1 has some subtle design tweaks, rgb lighting and an overclock, However the thing that made this cheaper model the winner for me is it not having that stupid Fan Stop message on the side :)
Also, It's good to see that the logo on the backplates are the right way up this time around.

I've got no regrets with my purchase. I swore I would not buy a 1080 at £650 but at £529.99 it was an easy decision. If it runs my X34a the way I want it to, then I'll fire a block on it and stroll on. If I fancy a little more oomph when the next card comes along, I'll just punt this one and get on with it.

Has anyone installed theirs yet? I won't get my hands on mine until Monday when I get home from work, so I'd be interested in any coil whine issues and also what temperatures I should expect? My experience with Gigabyte cards and the Windforce cooler has been excellent in the past.

Ordered. My 290's are beginning to show their age, and the crossfire support is pretty appalling. This will be my first Nvidia card in a looooong time. Let's hope I am not disappointed. :)

This is a little tempting as an upgrade from my 980. However, I have a mental note to only upgrade when £400 gets me double the performance of my 980. Still some waiting to do I think.

2018 I reckon unless you buy second hand.

Probably, I'm in the same boat with the 1070 as I want to get AMD for Freesync but atm nothing is worth it for 1440p with AMD. Going to wait until I can get double the performance with AMD myself and for around £400. MM is excellent for GPU's though as they don't hold value.

No coil whine on mine, and max temp while gaming was 76 degrees, in an evolv tg case which has crappy airflow.
The specification page says RBG leds which it does not have.

I have received and installed my card. First impressions are good, +200 on the core gives me a solid 2Ghz and temps max out around 73C. The Windforce cooler is quiet enough even at 70+ degrees, although I'll probably fit a block on it soon.

One thing (isn't there always :p )... When I took the card out of the anti-static bag, there was smear of what looked like oil on the back plate. It smelled faintly of WD40. The card works fine and all, but it seems to have stained the back plate. See the image, stains are around the power connector and also the to the right hand side of SLI connectors. I've never seen that before.

I took delivery of one yesterday but it was not the card that I thought that I had ordered. The listing has a multi-part name and a product code, so I used the product code rather than the name (which may change in different countries) to google reviews. In the reviews, the card cane first or second in all of the benchmarks and at this price and it seemed a complete no-brainer, so I ordered it.
When it arrived, I too found some oil on the board and when I installed the card, the LEDs did not work and I initially thought that the oil was to blame. I then noticed that the "Fan Stopped" panel was blank.
The problem is that the listing contains the correct name but the product code of the g1 :-
GeForce GTX 1080 D5X WindForce 3x 8192MB GDDR5X PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-N1080G1 GAMIN
I feel a bit cheated over this and part of me wants to send the card back but previous posters have been positive about it so I will probably keep it.
My view of card prices is that the 1080s will increase. Apart from the falling pound, which will fall lower as Brexit approaches, Nvidia are introducing cheaper models (1060 and 1050) and the lower end of the market id looking a bit crowded, so they may well increase the price of the 1070 and 1080 in order to maintain the price differentials between the various models.
Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?

I knew it was the WF cooler without what I consider to be gimmicks, so for me that's not an issue but obviously you may want to consider RMA if you feel you were misled.

My thoughts are:

+ The cooler runs below 60% at full load which is great for noise.

+ It sits above 2Ghz on air

+ It sits around 72C under full load

+ It copes brilliantly at 3440*1440

+ Unlike a lot of custom PCB's, this one is the same width as a reference board.

- The oil stain (although I feel better knowing you got the same, so it's "normal").

- First benchmarks seem to put it 10% above my 980ti in performance, and that just doesn't seem right.

Thanks for the reassurances. The prelude to receiving the card was spending the afternoon chasing the package from dpd after the driver stopped outside my building, took a photo and drove off, without making any attempt at delivery. Dialing the dpd number gave an automated system without being able to speak to anybody. TIP - I went on to the "Say No to 0870" , got the number of the local depot and managed to get the card delivered 30 mins later.
So I think that I was suffering from buyers remorse. I am going out to buy a Steam card and after playing my first game on it I will probably fall in love with it.
I am interested in Machine Learning and one of the reasons in buying the 1080 was the 2600 CUDA cores, which can be utilised in Deep Learning. With this amazing computing power and open source state of the art algorithms, I'm beginning to worry that a Terminator will appear at my door to prevent me from writing a program which will control the world's financial markets.
