Parking- why can't people do it?

I underst
So, in essence, everyone else has to accommodate your choice for having a large unmaneuverable van by not parking in a legally allowed spot?
i understand where you are coming from and in some situations yes your right but in. It so busy roads like mine were you could park the car literally 6ft forward would make everyone's life easier.

I get that... I have a thing about inconsiderate parking given that people in my street seem to want to leave 4-5 feet space on either side of their car when parking and, given I am always the last to arrive back at night, I end up having to walk some distance from my car to my house... I wouldnt have an issue if the street was properly full with cars but when I have to do it because of people not giving a toss about parking considerately, it really frustrates me...

We have on street resident parking on our road which is quite clearly marked with white lines. It doesn't stop people leaving a 1 meter gap between the front/back of their car and the marked ends! You can easily fit 2-3 cars in the marked space directly outside but sometimes you can barely squeeze 2 in :mad:.

Used to have this problem when parking at my old flat. The guest spaces could fit four cars, but people (who actually weren't guests, they just didn't have an allocation) would always fill the bay inconsiderately with two cars.

One weekend when my parents visited they parked behind car one as the other was away, only they parked properly so you could fit another car behind them. Came back to the car a couple of hours later to an angry note asking why they were parked so close... apparently a foot and a half was too close for this person.

Wat.

owch, that sounds bad, its mostly hatchbacks round here, and the odd 4x4

It wasn't as bad last night when I took this photo but here it is anyway. The white van in the 'middle' with a flat front tyre hasn't moved for months. It's not even that old! The white van behind it would usually be right behind it and there'd be 1 or 2 more vans behind that one. There's also usually a blue removal van parked either right behind the Luton van that you can see, leaving barely enough room for the driveway for the house RIGHT behind it, or on the opposite side of the road a bit further up, fully blocking the pavement. Also bear in mind that I stopped my car literally as I turned in from the small T-junction...

It doesn't look as bad in this photo but it isn't half infuriating.

I would love to park my car on the drive but last time i did i couldn't get out as someone parked opposite so it stays on the road now. We do put one car on the drive but its smaller so can swing out.

When I workedl for NTL:, my old style transit van just made it under my car port roof. The Car went into the garage.

So many times I had to go to the neighbours because I had to virtually straight reverse out then swing at the last moment to not take off the car ports roof with my beacons etc.

So here I am on call, 3:30am, out to the van and you, neighbour is parked directly across from me, obviously their car parking are within the house boundries is empty. Someone was not too amused having getting woke up at 3:30, funnily enugh their kids woke up crying, must have been the loudest ever door chap that I have ever done.

Funnily enough, never parked behind my van again..

We've got terrible parking in our street due to the houses being converted to shared let's. We have 4 cars which we have 2 on the drive with one blocking them in and the other parked next to the blocked one in front of our front garden. Our next door neighbour has 4 cars and a works van, so does the same thing but then the little van goes into a lay by which use to be left as much as possible so that anyone visiting someone down the street could park. Now it's got to the stage where we are having to park in the street next to ours due to how many cars and how restricted the space has become. Not ideal by any means!

at least they're parking on the outside of the bend, round here it's the inside to ensure maximum visibility blocking.

also, auto image resizing in quotes, me likey :)

Get a diesel Ford f350 with side pipes and roll coal next to all their cars. :)

Or you can buy a really cheap car and accidentally drive down the road bouncing off all the parked cars.

Round our way the issue is mostly with the people who don't really have a proper driveway, instead they have communal car park/garage areas but would rather park on the pavement outside their front door than have to walk any distance to their car.

I assume the same goes if people park in front of your house i.e. tough for you?

Indeed it does and people do it all the time, does it bother me no, because like me have every right to part on the road!. Even if your driveway is empty it's perfectly legal for someone to park in front of it on the road although it wouldn't go down to well.

Not something I agree with but it help to know these things and why it doesn't bother me and I don't lose sleep over it!.

*wonders if they make bull bars for a 3 series*.....

;)

They probably do! ;) but why the need to use it on a car that's perfectly legal to park on the public road? I didn't say anything about parking like a tool! LOL

I never have parking issues and we can get 4 cars up our drive so we've never parked on the front however our street is weird.
The half I live in has gates facing each other which sounds normal but 1 house to my left the rest of the street has gates facing houses which causes parking nightmares.

We may well have different definitions, but if you own a driveway and dont park in it without a sane reason counts ad "parking like a tool", probably because when everybody does it (like round our way) it becomes a dangerous and needless condition to put people driving down the road in.

Like the fella round our corner who for no reason parks his decked golf on the road right next to his drive, on a blind corner on the crest of a hill, had more than one episode of needing to slam on the anchors going round to find someone coming the other way.

Different definitions indeed, parking on the road so not to get blocked in on the drive, is that a sane enough reason? Or shall we needlessly move cars around first thing in the mornings?

There's going to be one of you with a longer commute, so they park in last. If your leaving time is the same there is no issue?
