When you have annual multi-trip travel insurance do you have to tell the insurance company each time you travel.
They seem to be limited to about 31 or 61 days, how do they know if you have been away for longer than this period each trip
if you claim do you have to submit flight details etc to prove how long you have been away from home and have not exceeded their trip limit
Thanks

If you are concerned that your current plan does not cover you, surely the best bet would be to ring up and extend the plan. If you have yet to purchase the plan, the best bet is to ask the insurer over the phone and get a reference for the call.

I wouldn't try to beat the insurers at their own game.

No, you don't have to tell them each time you travel.

Yes, if you need to make a claim then they will ask for full details of the trip, including your dates of travel.

I wasn't thinking of trying to fiddle the insurance company, I was just wondering about the time limits and how they would know, and now I know they would ask for dates before they agreed to cover you if you became ill on holiday
Thanks

Exactly this.

Having just filled in some claim forms, they ask for your travel dates, and proof of those dates - i.e. flight invoice. So if your cover is only up to 31 days, and you're going past that, then you'll likely void your insurance.

I take it the dates are from when you leave home until your return, no matter how many different countries you visit in between those times, we are planning to go to Australia with a stop in Dubai on the way out and Singapore on the way back

Correct, unfortunately it's not a "up-to 31 day trip per country". It only resets when you've landed back on UK soil, even if it's for an afternoon.
