**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

S8 great phone. Unfortunately it's £300 too expensive for what it is. People have changed thier asperations (well I have) and ended up buying a Axon 7. Big enough, powerful enough and decent price. I don't get curved screens myself. Bezels ultra thin yes but curved absolutely no. Distortion when you hold a device straight on is bonkers to me. Just because you can create curved screens doesn't mean they are better and one downward firing mono speaker. What is this, the 20th century or what. No excuses not to give us stereo audio (preferably front facing) on the speakers. Even the iPhone has it in some form. Visuals are key but so is audio especially when you hear the difference. Samsung didn't deliver for me, and wtf with the finger print sensor. Seriously that's just broken in its placement . Unforgivable.

How are people finding the S8 fingerprint sensor. The location is really putting me off, but I haven't had chance to hold one properly with all the security things attached instore

Absolutely fine mate :) It's not a stretch at all when you are used to it as you finger will naturally gravitate towards it in a little time...also I use the swipe down on it a lot to bring that notification tray down, such a useful feature.

Fingerprint sensor is meh. On the S8 (non +) it's ok, I can reach it without too much of an issue and a case or skin helps with locating it. I have found though with a combination of Smart Lock and Face/Iris recognition - I don't need to use it that much. On my desk at home/work or in the car I can just press the home icon and it'll unlock right away (Smart lock) if I'm out and about by the time the screen turns on and you see the time on the lock screen it's unlocked itself via face/iris.

It's still in a poor location, but just about ok.

I didn't know about Smart Lock until I read this and it looks like it'll be quite useful. I've set it up so that my phone doesn't lock when I'm at home, but is there a way to set it so that it just comes straight to my home screen when I press the home button? As it stands, I have to press the home button to power on the screen and then swipe to unlock.

WHAT! :O

S8 or Plus? WiFi, Location etc on?
Regular S8

You're as shocked as I was lol. Wifi on (and in use for all of those hours) and location on high accuracy mode

Different today though...

11 hours off charge
7 of those hours were on mobile data (with WiFi still switched on but no saved networks)
3 hours SoT

And I'm down to 26% hmmm

So seems mobile data vs wifi makes a huge difference?
So, it's all worked fine :)

Timeline:

Monday: Gave three PAC code
Tuesday: Number ported to three sim. Tried to transfer off again but you need to leave it until the next day, can't port in and out same day.
Wednesday: Got pac code from Three and gave Vodafone my three PAC code and they've now confirmed the number will transfer during business hours tomorrow.
Thursday: All being well saga over!

Total cost: £0.75 for the three sim card from B&M.

Nice! Much better than waiting a month for sure

Did they not mention some 30 day notice of cancellation? That's pretty useless of them to make me wait 30 days to move to Voda PAYG... Yet they're letting you go to another provider PAYG almost instantly

Hmm might speak to them again

+ 1 for me on that - curved screens look awful to me when viewed straight on, to me it just looks like someone has smeared vaseline down the edges of the screen or i'm looking at that part of the screen through beer goggles.

I hope this trend doesn't continue!

I personally think the curved screen looks incredible and the best looking screen on the market.

The whole design is just stunning.

Yes, in the on screen buttons bit of the settings menu there's an option to unlock with home button.

Now I've had the phone for a bit I think I prefer it... Can't make my mind up tho.

Okay so MPD say on their site 'Arrives in 2 days'. Now does that mean it arrives with them in 2 days or does it arrive on my doorstep in 2 days because there's a bank holiday weekend coming up...

My bet is they will have them on 28th and if you're lucky you get it Saturday with weekend delivery.

That's what's hopefully happening with my s8 from chitterchatter. Otherwise you might be able to pick up in shops on 29th if you're buying sim only.

Looks like my Samsung order has now shipped, just seen the status update change. Which means I'll get it on Friday. Joys!

anybody recommend a car charger for the s8?

Any QC2.0 compatible one. I have an Aukey dual QC2.0 one. Was £9 iirc.
