i have a 980ti..i bought a 1070 did i fail?

yea I sold my 980ti..i had to put the money back in the bank unfortunately, would have loved a 1080ti but the 1070 will do I think.

not quite sure what the post from orbital meant about ram not being physical cooled?

depends what clocks You run 980ti. Like i got mine with AIO bios mod 1480constant under boost no drops. 1070 cant have bios moded so even under water cant clock it :/

You don't need cooling for VRAM, they don't output any heat.
I wouldn't say any. Could be 5 watts per chip then you have hot air blowing onto the chips not helping things. But i doubt it would be anything to worry about. Just means overclocking the memory probably wont be a great idea as it could mean the memory will be running toasty.

The Asus dual has no cooling on the vram, just naked chips.

thats the one! well recommend :D believe few Dual cards i've used didn't have warranty stickers on the screws :)

its more product lifespan then overclocking . in theory you could drive a card around without the radiator fan working, when your engine temp will rise at a stop but then you drive off again. But pretty much everyone would get this fixed and not run the risk.

if you can get ram sinks on, attach them, again card uses 0% fan at under 60c

ok I will probably put an AIO lc cooler on them with a fan bracket if its that bad.
I haven't seen any full blocks for them or any naked pcb pictures for the dual..i guess that speaks a thousand words lol.

I'm never going on ebay drunk again!

check alphacool as they have waterblocks for every card and if they dont than they will make one free of chgarge for you if you send them your card.
im using one myself on a 980ti hof

You just wasted some money and effort. Perhaps if you had bought a 2nd 980ti, you could SLI it and try that outm but not with a 1070 (different card). I prefer the 980ti myself, only real advantage you get with the 1070 is a couple extra GB VRAM and potentially better performance without overclocking. But 980ti is better when both OC, from what I've seen.

not wasted any money luckily, but yes time definitely and now I have to faff about for a waterblock.

lesson learned never impulse buy unless you know what you are doing lol.
