Hi all,

Not been abroad for about 10 years and didn't have a phone at that time... so just checking...

What's the best / required thing to do to avoid charges? My aim is just to use Wi-Fi.

Do you simply just turn off mobile data and also data roaming... and that's it? Do you need to do anything with the cellular network itself?

Rough settings changes required for iPhone and Android would be great please!

And if I do choose to use the Vodafone Data Traveller thing (£5 a day to use my UK allowance), would that require me to simply switch mobile data on? Or mobile data and also the data roaming option?

Thanks :)

You just need to make sure roaming is switched off, no need to turn off data as well although there is no harm in doing so. The roaming settings are found in the connections/network settings on Android and mobile data settings on iOS.

To use Vodafone Data Traveller aboard you will need to turn roaming back on.

Perfect thanks!

Just trying to work out if it is worth the £5/day for a 1-week holiday... maybe just put it on one out of 3 of our phones or might just see how it goes with WiFi.. I imagine that will be sufficient

WiFi should be sufficient depending on where you're staying but if it's not you could always pick up a local SIM card cheap. I did this in Thailand and had just under a month's worth of 4G for under a tenner. :-)

Thanks! That's the backup plan haha
