Guy jailed for writing kill all muslims

Funny how you can be a known a man with links to IS, have extremist views, be on TV programme expressing your views etc and still be allowed free to roam and then execute a terror attack but posting a sentence on Facebook lands you in jail. This country is a mess.

This is something I always say. It used to be much more fun, if painfully slow.

Obviously there has always been a dark side but I preferred the net population before they let everyone and their dog/cat on to it.

The amount of storage being used to host absolutely moronic content must be staggering. :p

What we need is vast amounts of segregation. Far right? Daily Mail comments section for you! Facebook back to being for students. Anybody who adopted internet use at the age of 40+ can congregate on Friends Reunited. Stupid people can be allocated 90's style chat rooms on which to bore people to death. Then the rest of us are free to roam as we please.

I am a bit worried that I've reached the age of "things was better when I were a nipper" a bit early given I'm only in my early thirties.

Internet access should only be available once passing an exam. A technical one followed by an etiquette one. You fail, you snail! would be the motto.

Same, but for us things actually WERE better :P

The article does also say "He also told police that if he had the chance he would blow up the mosque in Wrexham."

I think it's more serious that the headline suggests.

It does make you question just why they have been so quick to jail this hateful piece of ****, while other known and more dangerous hateful pieces of **** are left to walk freely. Can't help thinking its a PC PR exercise.

Also if every thing people write on facebook/comments sections/forums can so easily land you in prison what about Youtube comments section? ANY vaguely contentious subject will have 100's of openly abusive threatening comments.

This. I'd like to think there was more to this case which isn't being reflected in the media as imprisoning someone for a VERY stupid generic statement it not only ridiculous but a huge waste of money and resources.

I'm sure many of us have said quite abhorrent things on the odd occasion when drunk. It's a worrying precedent tbh.

I seem to remember certain groups shouting much the same kind of thing in protests and not being jailed... EDL and Anjem Choudary's lot come to mind. Does posting it on the internet make it different somehow?

Wasn't Choudary jailed for 5 years?

I think that whether or not he would have personally followed through on his actions is irrelevant to some extent. The underlying sentiment is more important - alcohol lowers inhibition and people are more likely to speak their true mind when under the influence. However, the bigger picture is more important here.

The majority of people who hold these views will never really do anything about it and are passive - looking for someone to blame, somewhere to place their misguided hatred. Some are actually more rational about it and just express their opinions and discuss things rather than blatantly inciting hatred and encouraging violence and all the rest of it.

The real problem is the few who WILL act on their beliefs. These few are riled up and under the impression that a huge number of people believe the same thing as they do - because of comments like this guy made. They think there are a large number of people with the same ideals willing to commit grievous crimes because of social media posts. You end up with delusional groups that think they are in a majority because they continually sit in echo chambers that reinforce their warped world view.

There's a difference between free speech and inciting hatred and violence.

Doesn't that just mean deep down you guys are ***holes? :p
Maybe. Maybe not. I hate that feeling the next morning when you realise you've done or said something horrible though.

Deep down I don't feel attracted to fog beasts but ill judgment under the influence has ended in tears a few times. :D I don't think this "real you" when drunk theory is sound.

I agree, unless there is significantly more to this case than seems obvious from the reporting this is a bomb to crack nut. And I'm not advocating bombing nuts on fear of imprisonment.

I can honestly say I've never been to bed with an ugly woman...

I've woken up with one or two though...:-p
