Yeah and I wish it was your last as reading this fiction is dull. Do some empirical research then get back to me.

I posted a whole loads of facts about American military supremacy. It's just conjecture to assume that a nation which is growing economically is going to continue at that sustained pace, and leapfrog the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world.

There's a lot of potential in China, sure. People also said similar things about Japan once upon a time, which is actually referenced in your Wikipedia link.

What have I said that's fiction, and why are you upset that I'm posting? I can understand if you're the Chinese ambassador. It's only a bit of a debate...

One problem is that China's growth has been part of a transitional period - sure if you extrapolate those numbers without taking anything else into account it looks like it would eclipse the US pretty quickly but the reality is those numbers aren't the long term sustainable ones.

I don't particularly doubt that it may become the world's largest economy. It's worth bearing in mind though that even if China's economy equalled the size of the US economy right now, GDP per capita would be equivalent to countries like Panama or Chile. Less than a quarter of US GDP/Capita, and only just out of middle income territory. By the time this happens, US GDP will be larger, and the "middle income" boundaries will expand, so China may still even be classed as a middle income country whilst being the world's biggest economy.

Then we get onto soft power (cultural influence). China are firmly outgunned here.

Not sure if relevant to the nations being discussed here, but isn't left and right wing wrap-around? So instead of seeing left-right as a line, you see it as a circle. Then one goes so far to the left that they actually become right wing and vice versea?

Anyway, looks like Orionaut has done a post-and-run like on a standard Mumsnet AIBU thread :)

In b4 the "Nazis were left wing really" debate starts... in 4,3,2,1....

They are both collectivist political ideas that have lot more in common then people will sometimes admit.... The Nazi's were just national socialists, primarily concerned with a race based collective whilst the communists were class collectivists.

Both ideas show the failure of collective political theories that advocate too strongly for the rights of groups over individuals

So actually, a spokesperson for Corbyn says China has done more than any other country to lift the poorest out of poverty.

That is a stone cold fact. Compare China to India in that respect and they are leagues apart.

No mention that "Corbyn loves china"...

Indeed. At least someone in this thread knows what they are talking about. The trouble with the internet is that any moron can post but at least smart people can post too. :)

Relative or absolute poverty?
