Is it worth getting a PS4 pro or Xbox one X to use with a 1080p TV?

As per above I have a regular Xbox one and PS4 but wondered whether i'd see any benefit by upgrading to a pro/X given I only have a 1080p TV?

For patched games you should see benefits in the frame rate on both, enhanced visuals and the likes.

Whether it's worth it or not, that's going to be subjective.

I haven't bothered. I was tempted at first, but for 1080p the gains just don't seem to justify the cost.

If the base PS4 was completely struggling with newer games whilst they performed admirably on the Pro it'd be a different story, but that's not really the case from all the comparisons I've seen.

I personally wouldn't bother, I don't think the extra gains are worth the cost unless you have a 4K TV as well, I would rather put the cash towards a 4k TV first, although I reckon an ideal time to buy a 4k will be around 2019/20, because 4K/HDR and DV is still in its infancy.

Plus the fact the X seems to be bug and fault ridden currently, only need to look at the number of exchanges taking place over the last couple of weeks on here.

I got the PS4 Pro as I love the PS4 and the exclusive games it offers. But a year on, I realise it was a stupid purchase because I don't think the few benefits you get for 1080p were worth shelling out for, especially as I never sold my OG PS4 which is sitting in the cupboard all alone and getting dusty. So the X1X at £150 more is definitely out of the question. Especially as my next purchase (iMac) is costing an arm and a leg. :p That £450 for X1X will go towards upgrading to an SSD and extra RAM.

Still worth getting even if you'r just gaming @ 1080p. I find it jarring using original PS4 or Xbox One after using either the Pro or X.

I have both and got them for the enhanced frame rate and visuals. The Xbox one s barley hits 1080p where as this does it fine. But I upgraded from both and sold the old consoles so it cost me a lot less to make the change. And also when I get a 4K tv I’m ready

I've considered getting both but I'm happy with my 1080p TV for now, might be nonsense but I've heard a lot of negative reports of upscaling when watching HD and SD on a 4k screen, is this the case?

90% of my TV use will be watching Sky rather than gaming so until more TV content is 4k I'm not sure it's worth it for me personally.

Let's flip this abit..... What TV do you have OP?

I have a Sony BRAVIA X Series KDL-40X2000 40" which I use for connecting my gaming consoles as it has an analogue tuner and scart connections for older hardware. It's about 11 years old but was pretty high end at the time. I have newer 46"1080p bravia in the lounge but don't really want to hook up consoles there as it's the family room.

I'd been intending holding fire on getting a 4k TV until the next generation of games consoles are released. By that time native 4k should be a thing and standards like HDR will hopefully have been sorted out.

However, I was mulling over getting PS4 pro in the meantime as I found quite a few games I've been playing looked kind of pixelated and low detail (horizon: zero dawn for example). Or at least they did to my eye compared to what I'm used to on PC.

Hence why I'd wondered whether a ps4 pro would make any difference Vs the regular one?

I have recently bought a XB1X and it's being used on my Sony TV which is only 1080p. The TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-40NX803 and was one of the best TV's around a the time when I bought it nearly 8yrs ago.

I can't tell you about differences in terms of frame rate and quality as I came from having the original PS3 (the very first fat version) so of course everything looks massively better than that!.

However when using the 'Insects' thing you can get on the XBox Store that demonstrates the difference that can be made with the SuperSampling feature the XB1X has. But i believe this only works on the 'XB1X enhanced' games, of which there are around 100 now. I bought Forza Horizon 3 Ultimate last night as it has 50% off for the next 2 wks and the graphics on that are amazing!

After owning a PS4 pro with a 1080p panel, i'd say no. It makes more sense with a 4k screen and is certainly better, but still isn't night and day. The problem with these beefier iterations is they're hamstrung by the weaker versions and what respective devs decide to do with the power.

Most folks seem to be saying there isn't much difference on a 1080p screen so I'll probably give the idea a miss for now.

Better to save my money and upgrade when there are some genuine next-gen consoles in another 2-3 years time I reckon.
