I have no doubt there is some benefit but I'm amused by the idea of "wear is half as much, it lasts twice as long!!!" :p

#meToo

it does sound like exactly the sort of thing the shoe industry would like to spread around: buy more shoes and they'll last longer etc..

I'm not sure why letting a shoe "rest" for say 36 hours rather than 12 hours before wearing it again would necessarily increase its lifespan (if measured in terms of the total hours you actually wear the shoe)

It features as part of the "shoe care" guide on the Herring Website:
https://www.herringshoes.co.uk/shoe-care-guide

I don't think it's a case of they will last twice as long (they obviously should if they're only being worn half as much!) but that in doing this extends their life by significantly more than double.

I'm happy to hear other opinions on this though.

A guide for caring for shoes - just makes me wonder how the beneficiaries of this would be able to cope in a crisis or simply exist in the real world.

Personally, I think the idea of letting the leather rest after wearing them is total BS.

On another note, I just bought a pair of Loake 1880 Bedale boots in tan from Jones for £152 in their sale.

Does anyone have any recommendations at a lower price point? I'll pay £100 for a comfortable pair of shoes I can wear at work, but much over that is really out of my price range. Ecco might fit the bill, but there's nowhere near enough to Stoke-on-Trent that sells them and I don't want to buy shoes without trying them on first.

A coworker has said good things about the Josef Seibel shoes they bought for £80 so I'll be trying some in that range, but I'm open to suggestions.

I think a few people on here are happy with Loake shoes, they have some shoes made in India that come in around that price range.

I'm after a new pair of black oxfords/toe cap for work which will be rotated with my current CT brogues (which conveniently need be repaired). After a few days of browsing, I've narrowed it down to the following:

Loake - Smith (£175 but I'll get Herring to price match another site for £149)
https://www.herringshoes.co.uk/loake/smith_oxfords/black-polished

Goodyear welted, rubber heal, medium width and handmade in UK.

Loake - 747 (£175 but £150 on another site so Herring to price match)
https://www.herringshoes.co.uk/loake/747_oxfords/black-polished

Goodyear welted, rubber heal, medium width and handmade in UK.

Loake - 200 (£135 but £120 on another site so Herring to price match)
https://www.herringshoes.co.uk/loake/200_oxfords/black-polished

Goodyear welted, rubber heal, wider fit but made in India.

I'm swaying more towards the Loake Smith as it's a medium width and made in the UK. I've checked Herring, Pediwear and British Shoe Company (including the sales), but can't seem to find anything else in the same bracket? £150 but will spend more if justified.

Any other recommendations?

Personally prefer number 2 since it's made in England and looks less pointy (more roomy).

For me, what do you guys think of Dr Martens 1460 Mono? I tried Solovair but didn't really like the fit. Strangely, whatever last is used on the 1460 Mono seems a much better fit for me. The only gripe I have is they look pretty cheap and the leather feels almost plasticy to me.

Thanks! I ended up going for the first option, but if they don't fit or are too pointy at the front, I'll return for the 747's.
I saw the Smith's in Jones Bootmaker earlier this week and I really liked them. They don't seem too pointy.
